Is it okay to mix bonita with blue runners in the same livewell? Anybody got a good tacktic for catching bonitas for bait? Spoon? Small diamond jig? 40# main line sabiki?

Thanks.

your bonita's aren't going to last long in your livewell. they are like tuna and require a lot of water moving through their gills to stay alive. you are going to need a very sound way to attach yur livewell to your boat. you will be amazed at how easily that 400lb plus of water can move around on a rocking boat....rick

Tuna are required to swim thru 26" of water per second to flow enough oxygen thru their gills to stay alive.

I cant remember where I got that # from, I'll see if I can find it

I don't know about bonita

But I once placed some perfect candy size blackfin tuna a live well with blue runners. Those freaking tuna were so fast you could never catch them. They were just streaks in the water that did not stop moving until they died and floated to the surface. I think tuna tubes would be the only way to efficiently keep them alive.

Gotcha. Not sure what is wrong with the livewell that is on the boat. Fixing it may be an option. I can't stand the thought of going offshore with no livewell!
check the tubing.........

i've seen boat mfgs (and some people too) that aren't aware that 'just any' tubing will work......... just like RVs, you'll notice special hose for potable water

same thing with live wells............ wrong plumbing/dead bait
