Boats on Deadliest Catch

Have you ever wondered what they are riding in when they show shots of the crab boats busting through the 25 foot swells? I guess they are in other crab boats, sometimes you can see lights from other vessels pretty close by.
Also, I watched an episode the other night where the Time Bandit was in dry dock, there was no keel on that boat, completely flat bottom. Seems like it would really roll in those seas. I guess there is enough ballast in those tanks to keep them riding really low. Those are some pretty tough boats and men.

They have an episode where the Hansens talk about the design of the Northwestern which their father originally built. They said the hull took its design from a seabird (albatross/seagull?) being able to hold steady heading into those winds. Thought it was pretty neat insight to how those boats are designed.
