Looks like I'm a headed to Florida! My daughter, Who is a surgeon and finishing up a siminar in Chicago. Is 99% through the process of getting hooked up with an outfit in Dallas. She had a deal going in Hawaii but it wasn't meant to be. Anyway, she finishes up in Chicago at the end of this month and already has a place in Dallas. She has been shopping for a car and has found the car that most people dream of all their lives and never stumble across. It's a '99 Jaguar XK8 and the pics tell the story of its condition. She is getting it for 5K below bluebook and she is excited, to say the least. The problem is that it is in the Ft. Lauderdale, Florida area. Well, it ain't such bad news for me because I get to fly over there, Pick it up and drive it home. :birthday2

Billy, I'm going to be breezing right past yer stompin' grounds and I'd sure admire the chance to stop by and say howdy. ;) I haven't made any travel arrangements yet. Pam will get online tomorrow and see if she can get me a seat on a flyin' cattle car of something. I expect to be flying up some day towards the end of next week. When I get my ticket booked and know when I'll be in your area I'll give ya a toot and maybe we can hook up for a cup of coffee or something. You'll be hearing from me.

Thanks Bottomfeeder. But if I get lonely on the road, I don't expect I'll have much trouble findin' a travelin' companion with a set of wheels under me like that, eh? ;)

Sweet ride...however...

That model year doesn't have the best history in terms of mechanical reliability, which is probably the reason it's available below book value. Jags have just recently started building better cars since - believe it or not - Ford came into the picture.

Now please don't think I'm trying to be a bubble burster, as I know it's an exciting time for you guys. I would just hate to see that thing in the repair shop - not cheap. Before your daughter pulls the trigger, I would conduct some research by J.D. Power, Consumer Reports, Edmunds, etc.

Hope it works out for you guys.

JS, Thanks for the heads up. I mean it. But every thing is under control. She is buying this car from a dealer, through E-bay. The company has a Star and a 449 in dealer info. That means that they have had good reports on 449 transactions. They are considered a Power seller at 99.3% positive feed-back. I called my daughter to see how thoroughly she had checked out the deal. She ain't nobodys fool. She looked up the VIN and found that it is a one owner and has had NO, that is 0 mechanical problems since it rolled off the assembly line.

Perhaps SOME '99 model Jags have a bad rep and that made it hard for them to move this car at bluebook or better but THIS car is CHERRY!

I thank you again for taking the time to try to help. One of my favorite sayings is "Knowledge is power" ;)

Now that sucks!

You'll go 100 miles offshore with me, but when the job requires TWO shaved heads to make it look like Miami Vice, where's the love! I was pulling Tshirts and and Leisure jackets outta the closet, getting ready to make the run. I have a CD loaded with Jan Hammer (Crockett's Theme) Phil Collins ( In the Air Tonight), Glenn Frey (Smuggler's Blues), and the rest.

BTW if you don't take me with you, I have already given my brother a heads up. He is a Detective in the juvinile division of the St.Tamminy Parish Sheriffs Department on I-10, just outside of Slidell, LA! Going by yourself seems very juvinile to me!

I'll be waiting on your call in the morning!

Your friend forever,

Rick!

Jack that's a nice ride man and I know that you're proud of your daughter. My only advice is to stay away from the Casinos on your drive back and to keep it between the navagational beacons. ;)

Beautiful car, but be very careful. I've had one and mechanically I was not impressed. Was in the shop all the time. I have a 92' Chevy truck that has 233,000 on it as well. The nice thing is I can work on the truck anywhere, the car I couldn't.
