Went to Calcasieu to mark debris and take a look at the lake after IKE's huge storm surge, very few boats out and about. Found submerged boat docks, boats, pilons, etc. in the middle of the lake. Flagged what we could and reported coordinates. Be careful traveling the lake in low light conditions for a while.

The water was a stained color almost like weak coffee, but some baitfish caught our eye and we had to check and see if the fish were still around, caught a ton of redfish in no time at all along with a lot of small specks, kept a few for dinner. Left the fish biting, i do believe it would have been possible to have a 50-150 or maybe more redfish day if you wanted!!! Fish were biting on sand eels and shrimp imitations. The trout seemed confused and were very scattered and actually feeding up in the grass on the banks, i'm sure as the lake settles out they return to normal patterns.

all should open soon, this past weekend only calcasieu parish was open and cameron still closed so we used Calcasieu point landing, i know Heberts marina flooded bad but the launch is fine. Spicers in hackberry took a lot of flood water also but you should be able to launch there when cameron parish opens back up, i wouldn't count on fuel or live bait for a while.

How did Calcasieu Point make out after the storm? Being a surf fisherman I'll need some place to bank fish until 82 is rebuilt.
some debris in the parking lot but it was home base for rescue operations so most of it was piled up to the side, a little mud everywhere, i'm not sure when the store will open back up but the fish cleaning facilities had electricity and the dock is still fine for bank fishing.
