I was on that trip and it was hard to tell from the show, but it was around a 70# YFT. That was one of the first Big E trips last year and the gaffs were too short to reach the fish on the bow. Right after that, Casey bought new longer gaffs. He had him to gaff 3 times and on the third time he really put the pressure on it to try to get it close and you saw what happened. The reel was a Shimano Trinidad with 30# line, a little light but doable. We had plenty of 50# standup outfits on board and the deckhand happened to pick that one outfit.
Just before that fish was hooked up, we lost about a 40# YFT because of the same gaff problem. It was still some good publicity for the Big E.
