I saw the episode. It was a pretty good episode and they did a good job at depicting what an offshore party boat is like. I might have to try that overnighter....looks like a blast.

looked like tht LONG rod and 30# line whooped up on hime pretty bad.. Just think of all the people that got to stand around and wait for him to land(attempt) his fish for the hour&half. A bunch of them were upstairs watching him...Right at daybreak too, if I am not mistaken....

ANd what about the smart guy who ATTEMPTED to catch the tuna on a fly rod..... the blackfin ran so quick it destroyed the reel and the spool FELL out.... lol!!! At least he handlined the tuna back to the boat... shoulda just used an old coke can and some nylon twine- LOL!! Do you still have to yell "GOING OUT" when fishing with a coke can?????????

Best thing about the show was that my fiance got to see the boat..her comments.. "Thats a very nice boat, I wann go out in that!"" YES YES YES!!!!!

If you saw the gear he was fighting that fish with, it's no wonder he got his butt whipped. Couldn't see it real well at the gaff, but didn't look to be over 40-50#'s. And he blamed it on the "gaffer." WEAK!!! Mcgolfer would have landed that fish in 5 minutes.

I was on that trip and it was hard to tell from the show, but it was around a 70# YFT. That was one of the first Big E trips last year and the gaffs were too short to reach the fish on the bow. Right after that, Casey bought new longer gaffs. He had him to gaff 3 times and on the third time he really put the pressure on it to try to get it close and you saw what happened. The reel was a Shimano Trinidad with 30# line, a little light but doable. We had plenty of 50# standup outfits on board and the deckhand happened to pick that one outfit.

Just before that fish was hooked up, we lost about a 40# YFT because of the same gaff problem. It was still some good publicity for the Big E.
