This was also posted on TTMB...probably more appropriate over here.

I know a fishing tournament is probably last on most folk's minds right now, but a lot of balls are in the air and quite a bit of money has been spent. That being said, should we push forward with our plans to hold the tournament on October 18th, postpone until spring or cancel altogether?

Management at Harborwalk is quite certain the facility will be ready to go by the 18th. Will the folks fishing be ready? Over 360 fished with us last year and we were able to make a very nice donation to Kids Unlimited. Would love to at least match what we did last year. Can that happen now?

I really appreciate everyone's comments. 2cool was a HUGE reason for our success last year and we're counting on your input again this year.

I hope this finds everyone safe and I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Adam...
IMO, I feel that the Big3 event should be postponed until Spring. Lives need to be put back in order first. W/ so much destruction on the Coast, it will be a while before launches and piers are rebuilt, baitcamps will either go under or rebuilt, hazardous debris will hopefully be removed or at least be revealed in many areas. Mother nature has restructured bottom contours, I am sure folks will have to learn areas all over again. When it comes to getting to a weigh station in a hurry, we don't need a "spotter" right now! Let things settle down for a while..fish will still be here.

I'm very sad to say that Mudskipper is correct. Below is a letter I sent to everyone that fished with us last year and also posted on our website. This was a very difficult decision for us to make. Ya'll were so great to us last year and we really hope you'll support our decision and come fish with us next year.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Friends,

In the wake of Hurricane Ike, we hope this message finds you and your family in good health and spirits. Several weeks have passed since this dreadful storm and, for most, life is returning back to normal. For those facing the worst - loss of boats, cars, homes and, God forbid, loved ones our thoughts and prayers are with you during these difficult times.

It is for this reason we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year's Big 3 Big Fish Tournament. After a lot of debate and soul-searching we believe this is in everyone's best interest. Several factors influenced this decision…safety of the boaters, vendor/sponsor support and how many registrations we thought we would receive. Based on the input we got from folks that fished with us last year and many other phone calls and emails, we were not confident in any of these things. It takes the support of many different companies and a lot of generous donations to pull off a tournament this big and many of our resources were diverted to aid in the hurricane relief efforts. It also takes a lot of paid registrations to cover expenses, prize money AND guarantee a nice donation to Kids Unlimited. We just don't think that can happen at this time.

Once things settle down, we will hold a tournament committee meeting and discuss future dates. Whatever we decide, look for our ads in all of the major fishing magazines, fishing forums or just check in here every once in a while. For those already registered, your payments should have been refunded. If not, please contact me at your earliest convenience.

Our inaugural tournament last year was a HUGE success and this year's plans were even better. Rest assured, more great ideas are circulating and the next Big 3 Big Fish Tournament will be the BEST of any tournament held on the Gulf Coast! Stay tuned for more details.

Again, all of us on the Big 3 committee hope you are doing well and pray that you and your families are safe. If you have any questions, comments or ideas to make our next tournament better, please feel free to send me an email at [email protected].

See you soon!

Adam Murray
Tournament Director

p.s. The kids still need our help. If you are interested in making a donation to help these very special people, please let me know!

Adam, wise choice to canel tourney. The # of boats in the bay fishing are slim and none. Don't quit though, come back bigger and stronger, tell your Ike story of having to cancel and come back bigger and better, trust me the folks will want this next year big time.
