I was decided to do some wading at Mosquito Island early Tuesday (7/8/2008) morning. I hit the water about 7 am and finished up about 9 am. During that time…some LOW LIFE decided they wanted to get into my vehicle. When I returned to my vehicle, the right front window was shattered (see the attached picture). Luckily my alarm must have spoiled the shopping trip, so nothing was taken. Come to find out…after filing my report with the police, there has been 3 similar events at the same exact location…with in the past few months. BEWARE!

I can appreciate the sentiment there, BC, but doubt you could walk away from it.

If I had my druthers, I'd druther have some other 2Coolers with me, catch the perps and send them home, ambulatory or otherwise, with fond memories of a good 'ole blanket party for their actions. Maybe they'll think twice next time...or start packing, THEN, we enact your plan...lol. Who knows?

you aughta take your deer rifle and set up away from your vehicle and wait for them and as soon as they break in, take their head off

why don't y'all just not leave anything of value in your truck and leave your windows down?
That's a start. Don't leave anything of value in your truck. So before you go out wading take out the stereo, airbag and catalytic converter, and you should also siphon off the gas ... cause they'll take that as well.

Also, roll down the windows or they'll bust them (looking for stuff you already removed.) And you may as well leave the truck unlocked so they don't damage the door.

Heck, why don't you leave a pile of cash in the bed of the truck ... that way they'll take the cash and maybe not vandalize your truck.

Sorry for your loss.

do you know a better way to make a petty thief uninterested in your truck than to leave it wide open with nothing in it?

"do you know a better way to make a petty thief uninterested in your truck than to leave it wide open with nothing in it?"

If we started hangin' 'em high and lettin' 'em swing..... that should make most lose interest in committing vehicle burglaries. I've said it once and I'll say it again, I hate a thief, almost more than anything else.

Yup. BC gave me the idea. I think it goes something like this: you aught a take your deer rifle and set up away from your vehicle and wait for them and as soon as they break in, take their head off.

Or, we can continue blaming ourselves for keeping our stuff locked up. Be a real kick in the groinal area if you took your valuables out of your truck and stored them in your home .... and someone broke into your home.

Crime is crime. If you surrendor and say don't keep valuable in your car your avoiding the problem. Remember, if you give a mouse a cookie, he'll want a glass of milk? You give 'em access to your car, they'll start looking into your house.

Locked or Unlocked-the scum will break in

My buddy Will and I used to fish the Levee Road all the time. Once time we were there, we left his truck unlocked-only had a change of clothes in it. Anyway, the scum broke the window to get in-IT WAS UNLOCKED and he didn't even check, so leaving it unlocked doesn't matter, the thieves are so dang stupid, they wont check to see if it's unlocked. Give the bastages a gut wound and let them suffer in agonizing pain for about 2 hours, then call the cops-the wound will kill him with his guts all over the inside like a gut-shot deer. Don't shoot them, stab them with a rusty knife. Gun discharge is illegal in Texas City Limits-knives aint!!!!:smile:

I had my stereo stolen in Casper, WY from my Jeep. The stereo was not actually "mounted"...it was just shoved into the hole where it goes. Yet the thief STILL tore the dash panel out to get to it! Moron! What the meth-head didn't know was that the radio was broke anyway!

While not leaving anything of value may not deter crooks, it will certainly limit your losses a bit! I haven't locked my doors in probably 10 years, leave nothing of real value, and have only had the one break in...that I know of anyway.

Sorry to hear of your loss though, glass is sure expensive to replace!

Cost break down....

$ 21.00 - 3 Dozen Croakers

$188.73 - 1 Rt Front Window (07 F-250)

$ 30.00 - 1 Rt Front Window (re) tint

$239.73 for one 22" trout (which I gave away...so I could file a report w/ the police)

It's sad to think some people believe you should alter your way of life (i.e. take every thing out of your vehicle when you leave it unattended), just because there are some dishonest people in the world.I accept the fact that someone might have "wanted" something that I own, however that still does not give them the right to try to steal from me.

This go around...my alarm minimized the amount of property lost/damaged. Next time...it might not. That's why I pay for insurance. Either way I know that in the end, this person will ultimately get what they deserve.

My sister had her car broken into several times at work. Nobody could ever catch who was doing it. She bought her those big rat traps ( you know the old school wood and wire with a spring ). She set them up under her seat for 2 weeks. She went out one day and sure enough she was broken in again. One trap was gone. Next day a co worker had broken a few fingers somehow the day before. He had them wraped up. They took him out drinking after work and managed to coax the bandage off his hand. There was a perfect line bruise across two fingers. Make a long story short she said they broke his other two finger on the other hand.
She tells this story over and over so I'm assuming its true.

Duck down in the back like your sleeping. Then shoot them

knew or had reason to believe that the person against whom the force or deadly force was used unlawfully and with force entered, or attempted to enter, the actor's home, vehicle, or place of business or employment; unlawfully and with force removed, or attempted to remove, the actor from the home, vehicle, or place of business or employment; or was committing or attempting to commit certain serious crimes;

c'mon, i hate a thief as much as anyone (if not more), but bc's idea is ludicrous and unrealistic.

also unrealistic, although i have no problem with "hanging 'em high and letting 'em swing," but that's after the fact. murder is punishable by death in texas, but that hasn't stopped people from committing murder.

criminals generally ain't that smart. if they were, they wouldn't be criminals.

I can tell you where the police were. There were four of them in the turnaround under the overpass on I-45 and Greens road. They were pulling people over for truly important crimes such as expired inspection stickers, seatbelts, etc.

Before you "Red" me, yes, I understand that the policemen were following orders and were probably instructed by a supervisor to do that. It speaks to priorities that shaking down motorists is apparently more important than preventing vehicle theft.

There were another four on the Bolivar side of the ferry landing on Sunday busting people for the same thing....though that probably had some value as they probably prevented some ferry line jumpers from getting shot.

Agreed. It is unrealistic. And frankly I'd never want to ever hear about such an event as killing an innocent person is a great possibility. But it's also unrealistic to think if you don't keep valuables in your truck, thieves will leave you alone.

This isn't the first report of crime on the Dike. So, why would anyone go there to fish, knowing that it is a high crime area ?
I know crime can happen anywhere these days, but the Dike is a magnet for the low lifes.
