Anyone have any advice on this? I have a 2005 trailer that now has stuck lug nuts all around. After I heat them and get them off... I hope to replace the bolts with new ones... and lugnuts likewise. How does everyone prevent this from happening? or is it just part of the life of a saltwater trailer?

Anti seize on the threads before you tighten the nut. Then clean the exposed threads outside the nut with a solvent like Brake Clean and cover it with Silicon RTV compound gooped all around the threads and face of the nut. When you need to remove the wheel, it will peel off.

Spend about twenty minutes twice a year, back them all off and put some of the BLUE OMC GREASE on them. That stuff is tuff. I dunk my trailer over a 100 times per year and after two years they still back off easy.

Plumber's silicone grease

is what I've used on all wheel studs, stainless, and other marine connections (battery, etc.) for a few years now without failure. It is tolerant to high heat and impervious to water. It's expensive and sold in small containers, but goes a long way.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will be trying something from your list this weekend after I remove the old bolts and lugs and replace with new ones.

Never sieze on the threads then I sprayed all the nuts and wheel with Corroision X heavy duty. May not look pretty but nuts don't sieze and whell doesnt' rust. I also spray all the nuts/bolts wire connections and springs ( anything not galvenized) with this. when I am done using the boat I spray the trailer down good, the corrosion X won't wash off then about every 6 months I respray the trailer. I have a 2003 trailer and it is still in great shape. Good luck.
