I was at the show last night. It turns out that American Yachts , the repo boat place, is selling the Skeeter boats that were repo'ed from Dawson Marine. You can buy a new Skeeter with full warranty for 85% of dealer cost. If you are looking for a bay or bass boat, I don't see how you could beat this deal.:cop:

Here is the way to beat it....wait until they have to pull all of their floor models they are showing at the boat show back to their shops and then wait two weeks and go name your price! The boat's aren't exactly gonna sell like crazy due to our economy so hold out.....many dealers have gone out of business since early fall! :)

85% off how much? whats msrp around 30 grand ?

so to make sure my math is right that's 25500 off a 30,000 dollar boat?

so you can buy a new skeeter for 4500?

Ok maybe they are 40,000 for a new skeeter? so that would be 34000 off so 6 grand?

I'm willing to bet its not a true 85% off msrp or dealer cost its probably 85% off the margin they normally make. so in reality a couple thousand off.

if I'm wrong tell me where to sign up I got 6000 to spend on a 40,000 dollar boat.. All I want is the outboard really!

DEAL Everyday Price

WHAT IS DEALER COST?
Hull Cost orHull Cost plus Add on Costs and Profit

Dealer Costs

1. Hull Cost from manufacturer ****
2. Add on the following costs:
….Delivery of Hull
….Land and Building cost - high dollar retail exposure
….Ad valorem taxes
….Marketing costs
….Showroom overhead
….Interest costs of financing
….Administrative overhead
….Income taxes
….Boat show costs.
….Profit - On top of these dealer costs…..
….Dealer has to make a profit or go out of business.

Who pays for these add on costs and profit of the dealer???????????????
------------------------------------------------------------

Best Deals?

Do you really want a good deal on a boat?
Then consider buying factory direct from manufacturer,
rather than going to a Dealer Showroom.

All manufacturers do not sell to dealers.
They sell to directly to buyer....... direct from the factory!!

Conceptually, a buyer should be able to
negotiate a better price and/or more boat ……directly from the manufacturer.

The reasons are there are no middleman costs with manufacturers.
The dealers have to have mark up for profit to stay in business.
Besides dealer mark up profit,
their middleman costs are sales commissions, showroom overhead,
marketing, administrative, taxes and boat show costs.
Someone has to pay for these costs and profit.
You will!

Therefore, it is more logical the BEST DEAL
would be buying factory direct from a manufacturer
to get a lower boat price and more boat for same buck.

Why pay for the middleman?
There are many fine Texas Boat Manufacturers that sell direct to you.

BUY LOCAL / BUY TEXAS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SHOWS

Not all Texas Manufacturers and Dealers will be in the Boat Show.
A lot of Boat Shows are controlled by a "local" members/dealers association.
Only members can display boats in the hall.
The Houston show is a for profit venture of the association.
The venture then only showcases boats sold by the "member" dealers.
All dealers to be a member have to be in defined
geographic Greater Houston area.
No OEM boat manufactures will be at show from Houston or outside Houston.
A manufacturer to have brand in show has to sell to HOUSTON dealer member
and dealer sells to public.
Therefore not all Texas Manufacturers
and or even Dealers will be in the Houston Show.

Therefore it is more logical the BEST DEAL
would be buying factory direct from a manufacturer
to get a lower boat priceand more boat for same buck.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why pay the middleman or for shows?
There are many fine Texas Boat Manufacturers
that sell direct without the costs,
and will not be there in show!

Factory Direct, Boat Shows of Dealers, Dealers Show Room,
Wholesalers and Brokers
are all part of the free enterprise system.
Each has to have a pricing structure!

WHICH DO YOU THINK SHOULD HAVE THE LEAST PRICE?

The best part of being in a major economic slump is we as the consumers are waking up to the truth and are refusing to buy their over priced boats. If we keep holding out, they will have to lower them or we can get them for pennies on the dollar when the banks liquidate them after the dealers go out of business!!!

Duke,
You are correct and incorrect about American Yachts having Dawson Inventory. The Skeeter Boats are now owned by Texas Marine. Texas Marine has now obtained all the "unsold"/"new" boats Dawson owned. Any "Skeeter" boat sold by American Yachts will "NOT" have a Yamaha factory warranty!!! Texas Marine has picked up the Skeeter/Yamaha dealership contract for southeast Texas. I asked the "Skeeter" reps who has Dawson's "used" boats and they did not know. Texas Marine did not acquire Dawson's "used" boats. As for the huge discounts on Dawson's former inventory, all I can say is buyer beware!

I took the bait last night at the show and put a $500 down payment on a new 2008 Skeeter ZX22Bay with a Yamaha VZ225 for $29,600.00. The only thing that it didnt have was a hydraulic jackplate and a troll motor....still a good deal tho!

Let's see how a BUY DIRECT custom boat manufacturer stacks up?

2009 Simmons Custom Boat Top Cap- $12,800
http://www.nadaguides.com/default.as...S&gc=MR&gtc=MR

2009 Mercury Optimax 150hp- $7,305
http://www.nadaguides.com/default.as...M&gc=MR&gtc=OB

-vs-

2009 Trophy 2103cc w/ Mercury 150hp- $22,150.
http://www.nadaguides.com/default.as...T&gc=MR&gtc=MR

Looks like a SCB 22' Top Cat is worth $2,000 less than a Trophy 21' cc after the first year?
