Ok guys since it will be a while before Bollivar and Surfside is safe for return I have a couple questions.

First, I have never been down that way and I was wondering if there is Public Beach access by car/truck. If so How is the sand in that area (F150 truck).

Second, assuming it is open and can be driven on, how is the fishing there off the beach front? I was hopingn to go fish for some reds in October.

Third, How busy does it get in that area?

Any help or advice would be appreciated

Thanks KF

I cant speak on the the sand you drive on but I know there are a couple cuts that should be good for redfish Mitchels Cut which as you come into sargent is to the right and Cedar Cut which is a good ways to the left. I dont believe theres enough beach to drive on nor do they let you but there are trails both ways to the cuts you should be fine in a truck.

Report I am getting from from a guy with a place there, is the "beach" is no longer in existance. if you choose to attempt to drive the high water line, have a wrecked number programed into your cell phone and lots and lots of cash.

In others words, do not even try this.

The beach is pretty much gone, and there is nothing but sludge and rock. You could possibly still drive down to the cut via the trail, if you have a really good 4wd truck!!! I have not tried it since the strorm, but did drive to the beach, boat ramp etc. We have a place down there, and our neighbor's nephew caught some really really nice reds at Mitchell's cut! Good Luck! Rachel

Sargent Beach

I was down there last weekend and the beach doesn't look good. There is no sand left and what you can drive on does not look to friendly. I am not sure about the back roads, but they have always been pretty hairy.

If Sargents Beach front is not accessible what is the closest beach that I would be Able to drive on? IS it Matagorda? If so Where is the closest Public Beach Road?

I was down there this weekend and the beach looks to be making progress for the better. If you go to the right a little ways down the road you can drive on PORTIONS of the beach. It looks 100% better than it did the week after Ike. Alot more sand has washed up over the muddy areas on there also.

i was there sunday, you can drive west down the blacktop and still access the "beach"......

as stated above it is primarily mud banks now and the granite wall is very close in places to the road.

there were a few folks fishing , but the water was really off color and rolling.

as far as i know you can still access Mitchell's going down the end of the road, don't know about the old beach route across the mud flat
