This is off the TPWD web site at the link bellow. It seems plain to me the State of Texas does not care where you catch em only where you land them.

Note the part about "and also apply to aquatic life caught between 9 and 200 nautical miles in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and landed in this state. "

"The limits and restrictions in this guide apply to aquatic life caught in the public waters of Texas out to nine (9) nautical miles in the Gulf of Mexico, and also apply to aquatic life caught between 9 and 200 nautical miles in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and landed in this state. "

And it is not just Red Snapper that has different rule. Look at Vermillion Snapper.

I'll make sure and check the address's on my snapper to make sure. It doesn't matter what your gps says. Noone says you have to have a gps to catch snapper. Gps is a luxury and not a mandatory piece of equipment. The bottom line is if they stop you at 9nm + you better not have more than 2pp and in state no more than 4pp. That's the real deal.

Be safe and conserve our fisheries.

no more than 4 per person.. only 2 in fed waters. better have GPS coordiantes marked where you caught them. if you venture into fed waters with 4 per person you are in violation of the law.

Go into fed catch 2, then come into state and catch the other 2 and make sure you are hitting the waypoint button for proof.

Not knocking Law Enforcement, BUT a Tx warden in Fed waters is kinda like a SA policeman writing tickets in Houston. Although I try my best in staying legal, if it were me they caught 'over the line' when we get to court they had better have a 8x10 glossy with a fish on the line and a mile marker in the pic FOR THE JURY. This mess is BROKE>plain and simple. WW

Seems to me that once your inside of the 9 mile boundary you should clear your log on your GPS. Go ahead and finish off your 4 snapper limit and tell everyone on board you never left state waters !

At least for this year any how !

I have been stopped by the game wardens many times. Always inside the jetties or at the dock. I have had them climb on board while bangin their boat against my hull with no concern for my boat. I have had them inspect my fishbox many times. Never once have they asked where I caught them.

As I understand it and we should hear it offically next week that the limit will be 4 red snapper in federal waters for a period of "2" weeks then both the state of Texas and federal limits will be the same-"2 red snapper per person". This coming from a warden with knowledge of the up coming anouncement.

During the Federal water Snapper closed season, if you catch red snapper in state waters and then go offshore to catch wahoo or Tuna(or reverse) and bring both species in and get inspected at the docks or jettys you will get a citiation. I am sure you can go to the judge and show him your GPS or whatever and you might get off. But you will get a citation. This comes from a game warden not hearsay. I think James Howell had a post about this last year?, and I asked a game warden out of portA and he confirmed this. Dont get mad at the messenger but just thought I would pass it along. I am not sure if all game wardens look at this the same way but this one did. If you are planning a trip that would put you in this situation I would talk to a game warden before you do or call parks and wild and if it is different than I just told you (get it in writing). And by the way I have done this numerous times but have never been stoped in late winter or early spring with a combination state water reef fish and bluewater fish. so knock on wood.
