This fella was run over recently at our place north of Huntsville. It pales in comparison to one that was run over several years ago though.

Don't get caught with it. It's an endangered species...like the alligator....
Partially correct. I believe the alligator was taken off the endangered list in 1987. The timber rattler is endangered right now.

Thanks for the unpleasant reminder...

I'm off to SFA Forestry for a career change and I'm sure I'll be knee deep in about 3 species of rattlers, coral snakes, copperheads, and cottonmouths.
 I grew up with these things, so it ought to be an interesting reunion.

Mama didn't raise no fool, either - I'm going by Carter's Country TODAY to check on some Chippewas boots.

Oh - Looks like a timber rattler to me.

The timber rattler is a bad dude! As a youngster running around the piney woods I saw one in a field of 2 foot high grass one afternoon! He was standing up looking over the grass at me! The wind was kind of blowing the grass and he stood erect like a stick!

I still have nightmares about it! lol
