when i bought my boat new-- i had a 10 amp charger ----it went bad--- so i bought another but was told a 5 amp charger would be better-----i have 3-12volt batteries--- 2 hooked in series for my trolling motor and one 12volt battery for the cranking of the motor ----what amp do you guys recommend---and if u have any other recommendations on what brand to buy please tell me----also my last 2 were dry chargers and the salt water and fresh water ate the aluminum housings---do you recommend a water proof battery charger---im told dry chargers work longer than the water proof chargers because they are air cooled:help::help:

I use 2 MinnKota 15 amp, 2 bank chargers on my boat, maintaining 4 batteries. They've worked flawlessly for 6 years. Had them on my old boat and just transferred them to the new one when I traded. Mounted under the console, out of the weather and water. I've heard good things also about the Pro Mariner chargers. Most of them don't like to be soaked in salt water. The more capacity the charger, the shorter the time it takes to charge your batteries. Only downside to the larger chargers is the weight.

If you have a 3 bank charger with 5 amps per bank then you have a 15 amp charger which is 5 amps more than the 10 amp charger that went bad.

The beauty is since you have a 2 wired in series, the charger is putting a combined 10 amps to that bank (trolling motor) and 5 amps for the cranking battery. If you're not running a lot of electronics, stereo or the like that cranking battery will be charged the motor after cranking and will be topped off in no time from the charger.

As mentioned, a charger with a maintainance charge is best. Most new chargers are dual charge and maintanence. I'm a fan of Minn Kota chargers - good quality and solid reputation.

Feel free to give us a call for any assistance or you can buy from us in the future too.

I recently bought a 2 bank Noco Genius Gen2. Researched a bit and like what I read regarding reviews on this brand.

They also make a 3 bank 30A (10A per bank) GEN3.
I recently bought the same charger and am super impressed so far. What sold me was the fact that this charger is essentially 2 separate chargers built into one unit so it doesn't care if the chemistry of the battery is different. In my case I have an AGM and a wet cell. Most chargers out there require you to have the same chemistry across all batteries. Get them on amazon.
