Pat and I went to College Station today to watch Channelview play Brenham in the Class 4A Region III Championship game. Whew, it sure got hot. Channelview won a good, close game by the score of 3-1.
I was real envious of the photog with the three Canon's covering the game. Wish I could afford some big glass like his (all white L lenses).

Here's a few pics shot from the stands behind the first base dugout.

1) Out at second - No, wait. He safe because the pitcher balked!
2) Aaron Miller swing resulted in a double.
3) Diego's 390 foot double off the base of the left centerfield fence.
4) Casey Brown pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up only two hits.
5) The catcher had a busy day.

2) Out at second (somebody missed a bunt signal) :(
3) Second sacker fielding and throwing the runner out.
4) Channlview Falcons - Class 4A Region III Champions
5) Aaron's second hit

Struggles? What struggles?

Oh yeah, those struggles.

Well, actually there were several...
1) I found it very difficult to watch the ball game through the viewfinder! :(
2) At times it was hard to zoom and compose with the ball in play and my heart pounding in anticipation of a good play. That was tough.
3) I missed several good shots because I was watching the game and not shooting! :)
4) Looking for a good seat. I was lucky to get a seat behind the dugout where there was no netting. I had a good view of the entire field of play.
5) Thankfully, there was plenty of sunshine. I shot all pics in AV mode (aperature priority) and let the shutter speeds fall as needed. I actually got to increase my f/stop some when it was real bright. ISO never more than 400 (I think).

Galbayfisher, I was using a Canon Rebel XT with a standard Canon EF 75-300mm zoom (1988 model) that I have borrowed from a friend at work.

Focus and sharp pictures have been a problem for me, so needless to say, I was pretty happy with the way these turned out.

Ah the challenge of shooting sports - all the shots at the races I missed because generally you can only shoot a lane at a time, so I feel your pain. So you missed parts of the game because you were shooting and you missed shots because you were watching. It is definitely either/or.

It certianly looks like you've got the technical aspects worked out for these shooting situations. When's your next outing?

Today! But I was too busy catching fish and running the boat to stop and take any pictures (I took the Olympus :) ). Besides, the fish were all small anyway. Trinity Bay was dead calm this morning and glassed over.

Back to work tomorrow night. Might get out Saturday.

Note to self: Start saving all your change for that new lens! :)

Sorry this is a little late, but i just saw this post...

Congrats to Channelview for the Region III Champs, they are a very good team. I was hoping they could have won State... very good pitchers, especially in Aaaron Miller and Seastruck (sp?) kid...

I didn't make the game, had to work :( but I listened to both games and the Brenham announcers really praised Channelview players.

Very nice pics...
