Houses that stood

I saw that photo yesterday. Pretty impressive when you think that they are on the narrowest part of the Peninsula just north of Rollover and just across the highway from the beach....so narrow between the highway and beach that only a single row of beach houses were on that section. The one house that collapsed I THINK was the visitor center. The before picture of it shows a substantial enclosed structure on the first deck level and a substantial roof overhang on the top porch facing the beach....features that the surviving owner homes did not have. Ironically in the picture below the destroyed one is the inset photo with the lady standing in front of it.

Wayyyy high off the ground

Unlikely, but I wonder how much rain got in when all the shingles blew off. Is there any method of spray coating the roof decking so that even if shingles are blown off, the house will be watertight (for a while until re-roofed)?

I see they are still standing, but I wonder if they got any surge water inside them.
