Attaching varmint guard to barrel feeder

Probably an elementary question here, but what is the best way to attach a wire varmint guard to the bottom of a barrel feeder?

I'm guessing self tapping screws...but what do you use between the screws and the wire on the guard?

Also, I'm thinking of convenience (easy removal) as well so that I can test the timer on occasion.

I put 4 point barbwire around the legs and the ***** have not been back on the feeder since. I wasn't sure if it would work but I now only have a few pics of a single **** eating from the ground where I did have several up on the feeder.
