Attaching varmint guard to barrel feeder

Probably an elementary question here, but what is the best way to attach a wire varmint guard to the bottom of a barrel feeder?

I'm guessing self tapping screws...but what do you use between the screws and the wire on the guard?

Also, I'm thinking of convenience (easy removal) as well so that I can test the timer on occasion.

My first one came with clips. The second one was missing clips so I bought some small hinges. They worked great. I use self tappers.
