I have two 30 gallon plastic barrels that I was thinking of making into feeders. Will I have varmits using them as teething toys?
I also cut the tops off of them. Does anyone know of a good kind of lid? Thanks 2 coolers for any help.

i'd say if you put them on a tripod with a crank & cable you shouldn't have any varmit problems also depending on the thickness of the barrels the weight of your corn may be an issue.

i think i seen some lids in academy but don't hold me to that, i know they have the funnels for 50 & 30 gal drums.

I've had plastic ones up for the last four years hanging from a tripod without a problem. The 35 gallon barrels I used necked down a little before the top. I cut the barrell off at the narrowest part of the neck. I then cut a second barrell off about six inches from the bottom and used the base as a lid. It slid down over the necked down section and made good contact without getting snug for about an inch. I drilled a hole through both on each side and stuck a screw into each of the holes. So far it is working just fine. And the barrels I had were free so not having to buy a lid was an added bonus.
