Are Carbon Hulls A Mistake?

Ordering a poling skiff out Florida. There’s a carbon option, (hull, deck, console and hatches), and I’m wondering if that would be a mistake? The initial added expense in the build is fine, but is the 30% reduction in weight worth it on a poling skiff, given brittle nature of carbon (vs fiberglass) and the expense to repair it? I’m not sure how much impact it can take.

Never had one. Wonder about their brittleness with all of our exposed oyster reefs?

I wanted to, badly, buy an inflatable to make it easy to transport and to not need a trailer/storage barn, etc. The oyster reefs keep me from doing that.
This is what the manufacturer out of Florida said. (See below). States is there js a 30% weight reduction, improving draft.

Our lamination schedule for the entire build (not just the hull) includes an outer layer of fiberglass and an inner layer of carbon fiber, and the hull, deck and cockpit are vacuum infused with high-quality vinyl ester resin. This allows us to achieve a significant weight reduction while maintaining the strength, impact resistance, and repairability characteristics of an all-fiberglass boat. So, no worries about being able to repair the boat in the future and it shouldn’t impact your insurance.

There's brands here in Texas, for example New Water Boatworks, building with carbon. Should you ever need repair you could do so at the manufacturer. If your worried about tearing stuff up go aluminum. Sabine Skiffs is the king of aluminum.

Yeah, the waterworks is an awesome skiff, no doubt. Well done. I have to have one that will carry 4 however. Otherwise I would have bought it. The Chittum Laguna Madre is another exceptional skiff in carbon.
