We dont get all the info up here but heard that two people were recovered from Goat Island the other day. We know some of the folks that are still missing and was wondering if anyone got the names of those two... I heard today that there are still over 200 unaccounted for.

GALVESTON - Two bodies believed to be victims of Hurricane Ike were recovered Saturday from marshland near Bolivar Peninsula, officials said.

Maj. Ray Tuttoilmondo, a spokesman for the Galveston County Sheriff's Office, said teams of searchers with Texas Task Force 1 found a man and a woman Saturday afternoon on Goat Island.

Their identities were not known, officials said.

"These are the first two recovered so far with the ramped-up search from Texas Task Force 1," Tuttoilmondo said. "They were found just west of Rollover Pass. We've been out there with the search team, because we had boats available."

Tuttoilmondo described Goat Island as marshland once connected to the peninsula before the intercoastal canal was created.

"It's bordered by East Bay between (the peninsula) and Chambers County," Tuttoilmondo said.

The only way to reach the marshland is by airboat, he said.

The sheriff's office arranged transportation of the bodies, which were released to the Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office.

John Florence, a spokesman with the medical examiner's office, said an autopsy would be performed Monday, which could reveal what caused the victims' deaths.

"One was found under some debris, but I'm not sure about the other," Florence said. "We're looking where the debris fields are secluded, and it's hard to get to. We're relying on the sheriff's office marine unit to recover people when searchers find them."

Florence said Saturday's recoveries were the 13th and 14th victims found in the aftermath of the storm surge of the Category 2 hurricane, which made landfall early Sept. 13.
