SEABROOK â€" Police are investigating a shooting death on a boat.

Police received several 9-1-1 calls about 7:30 p.m. Monday regarding a woman who apparently shot herself.

Police found Kemah resident Shawnee Simmons, 44, in a boat docked near the 100 block of Bath, with a gunshot wound to the head. Officers also found a .32-caliber semiautomatic pistol, which Sgt. Sean Wright said investigators believed caused the wound.

An ambulance took Simmons to St. John’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 8:22 p.m. Monday.

Wright said investigators were not certain Tuesday whether the shot occurred while the boat was docked or at sea.

“That’s one of the things we’re trying to determine right now â€" the exact location of the shooting,” he said.

Police questioned the woman’s husband, who was apparently on board at the time of the shooting, but he was released and has not been charged with any crimes.

Wright said he hoped the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office would complete her autopsy today to determine whether the wound was self-inflicted.

it is possible to die from a GSW to the leg. a guy i grew up with did himself in with a gunshot to the femoral artery. bled out in just a few minutes. if i'm not mistaken its the largest artery in the body.

I feel for her family, but something is not right with the story to me and I hope it gets investigated properly by the local authorities.

For whatever reason, females rarely choose a firearm for suicide.

Flats, that is what I origionally said. It would have to hit the femoral. But a shot in the leg is a big difference from a shot in the head. Earl is right too, it is very rare for a woman to use a gun and actually complete a suicide attempt. Men usually Geterdun.

An atomic absorbtion test. If they test her hands and it's positive, she fired a gun recently. If they test his and they are negative, he didn't touch the gun. I'm sure they did that but they have to get the results back from the state lab.

Let there be no doubt, with the extensive amount of info that we have from this post, we know far more than the people that get paid to handle this do!!!! And accordingly we should give them the appropriate advice, as they would with any problem that would arise at our work. Yeah I'm being sarcastic!!!! Something tells me they may have at least a clue how to figure this out. Sorry to be so negative, but come on.....
