I'll be down there in the boat from the night of the 3rd to the morning of the 6th, anyone else going to be in the area?

I'm thinking of fishing the North Jetty/San Jose Surf from the boat, if the wind/waves are calm enough.

If not, I'll probably run to Mud Island, Quarantine Shoreline, somewhere in that area.

Last Resort, I'll head to Rockport and fish Estes/California Hole/and the intracoastal edges.

Anyone else going to be down there? What are your plans?

Thanks
Shawn

We just got back and the water was back to looking good on Sunday. We waded off the channel (Lydia Anne ?) and caught tons of small trout.........did catch one 23.5" though. The fishing had been fair-good around Mud island, but everyone and their brother was there. Good luck and post a report!

Shawn, i am not sure if you use bait or artificial, but if you use bait and want to limit on reds quick, Go to Estes Cove use a clear cork with live piggies or mullet 18" under it and reel in slow while drifting. There are thousands of reds there now. Also, anchor in California hole and chunk live bait. You will be done quick. I threw artificials all weekend and could not get them to hit, but I guarantee live bait would get them. I was sight fishing, and saw the most reds I have seen in a long time. Not many boats back there either. SHHHHHHHH.

Estes Cove?

Where exactly is Estes Cove? I am familier with CA Hole, Mud and Traylor (and Estes Flats), but I have never heard of Estes Cove. I am heading down to Aransas Pass this weekend, debating about taking the boat, but this report does sound intriguing. Thanks for the info!

Estes Cove is the most northern point of Estes Flats. There is a small cut that goes into it from the main channel by Macport dry storage. There is a small gas well head in the middle of it. It is not very big. There, and around the next point toward Little Cut are where the fish WERE. Basically, stick tight to the Estes side of Traylor Island. There is nothing to hit it just gets a little shallow. Have fun.
