The location of the vin seems to help narrow it down a bit.

I believe the VIN & Model #'s are in two different locations. Here's the Yamaha owners manuals maybe it will help. Click on the K & go to your specific Kodiak 400 model. The VIN & Model # locations for the first model 400 are on page #22

Should have been a little more clear. The frame has so much rust on it I can't find anything on the frame

But you should be able to tell where it was located right? Do u have a title for it?

According to the owners manuals most Kodiak 400's had a Mikuni BSR33 carb on it. You can find aftermarket carb's.

Pictures of the quad itself? Body style will help narrow it down a little.

Its gotta be pretty rusted up if you cant find the VIN and clean it up a little and get it pulled off there. No part numbers or description on the carb itself? I've seen some pretty rusted/beat up machines and the vin usually is still pretty visible, especially after a little oil and cleaning it up.

 

I will take pictures of it when I get home tomorrow.
