My Mom's search for a new car continues and I wanted an opinion on the mechanical soundness and durability of Porsche. Does anyone know of any major problems in general with the brand? All help is greatly appreciated.

My wife's step dad has one of their SUV's (I can't spell that word LOL). He's had it for about 2 years now and has not had any problems. He can't drive worth a $hi7 either, so that says something for the car. He has it in up state NY and it has survived a couple of harsh winters without rusting out too.

My dream car has always been a 959. I think that one did 0-60 in about 3.6 seconds back in the mid-80's. And only had/has a 6 cylinder in it. WOW!

Take care,
Tim

We had a 944 in the family a few years back and it was flawless mechanically, though the interior was a little spartan, I cant speak for the new stuf . But as for speaking after working on the BMW bikes (new ) last year I will say that euro stuff is highly computerized ;requires strict adherance to maint schedules for the warranties and when they do go south $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ +$ bueano~?

I could think of a few other cars in the entry price range of 60K that would be more fun...but hey, go for it, post some pics, always cool to see 110 mph @ 7000 rpms in a curve. LOL I prefer comfort over most "sports cars"....after all, speed limits are still the same.

My dad owned a gold mid-80s Porsche 928....One day I had it outside of our shop building, hurrying up on a wax job as the thunderstorm approached. The car was still outside as I began to hear little pinging noises, and bb sized white things bouncing off objects as it fell from the air...Yep, it was a hailstorm! Not wanting to get the freshly cleaned interior all grimey, I opened the driver's side door, started the beautiful 360 horsepowered beast, put one hand on the steering wheel and another on the brake pedal.....I positioned the shifter into drive, and the car took off! I ran it straight into a storage cabinet, slightly chipping the bumper paint and knocking a valance grill out.....

I told my dad that there was no vacuum to the brakes, and it only took me half-a-second from starting the engine to the time I attempted to let it idle into the building.... He claims to this day I stepped on the gas instead of pressing on the brake pedal....Maybe I did.... Heck, it was a vicious hail/thunderstorm and I panicked!

* As luck goes....Dad came out to start the car. And the brakes had a vacuum! Here I am acting out of honesty, giving him the exact story I'm giving you, yet the car is making a mockery of me!

He also owned a 1963 model 356....Now you want to talk about a fine ride! These cars are fun. It was a "trailer queen" so I was spared running it into a wall, or some kind of object! LOL

The base price for an NSX is $90,000. Not really in the same price range as the Cayman S, but it is a very nice car.
