Gang ...

First let me say thanks to all of you who responded to my e-mail a few months back about ufishing with topwaters. I have been learning and using many of the techniques you shared with me and am becoming somewhat proficient at using my bone colored baby spook, redfish pattern Skitterwalk and a few other baits. Bottom line, I would rather have a half dozen blowups on a topwater than catch a limit of trout on croakers. No disrespect to anyone using bait cause I will when I need to but I LOVE FISHING WITH TOPWATERS!

Anyway ... today was a spectacular day on the water here in Rockport. Just enough breeze to drift the flats, temperatures in the 60's to start off with going up to about 85! It was simply beautiful!

Drifted most of Estes flats area with scattered blowups and hookups. End of the day I ended up with 6 keeper trout to about 20", several undersized reds with the last one a keeper that went 26" and was really chunky. A picture of the red is attached to this post. Never got into a lot of fish in any one area so my best guess is that they are scattered with the unusually high tides.

Another note of interest about the day. My wife went with me and she prefers to throw shrimp under a popping cork. Well, there were no shrimp to be found in Rockport this morning so I hooked up a Gulp Shrimp for her and she couldn't have been happier. She caught as many fish as I did and did so on only one Gulp! She loved not hassling with the bait!

All in all a spectacular day with my wife, best friend and the best fishing buddy a guy could have. The occasional hug, kiss and groping my butt makes the fishing pretty sweet!!

Again, thanks for all your help in learning to fish artificials. You guys are the best! Next to my wife that is!!!

Sunday Wasn't Bad Either ...

Let's see, where do I start?

Yams ... wasn't us! We were off the water by noon on Saturday.

Wife was using the new penny Gulps. Learned a good lesson you might use. She kept getting a lot of pickups without a hookup so Sunday I took a pair of scissors and cut about 1/2" off of the Gulp shrimp and her hookups improved considerably!

Fished the back of Trout Sunday morning for a short morning trip. Had to get back and watch my Texans botch another game! Caught one after another redfish just short of legal. It was a blast and I didn't have to clean a single fish!

Another beautiful day it was but in the spirit of full disclosure the groping was down a bit after staying out a little late Saturday night and knocking down a few "diet and Malibu's". Seems dozing on the deck was the order of the day. Doesn't matter, she's still the best fishing buddy I have ever had!

It may have been closer to 12ish that i saw you, either way i saw a light blue majek, with a raised deck, and a guy in the same shirt driving.

Glad you guys had fun. We hit up some really nice water, looked like there should be fish everywhere. Waded for about 2hrs covering a lot of ground with 3 people...and never picked up a fish. Saw a **** TON of sting ray in the water though...that always makes for a good wade.

I had a feeling drifting estes may have been productive, but the crew i was with was ready to call it quits for the day.

Glad you guys made out OK.

Good report Champ, it was a great day to be fishing. I was in Copano bay and it was just awsome outside. We found some rat reds and I picked up a 25" red on our wade. Had to get back early so that was all. Sunday was just as nice but this time the reds were way in the marsh grass and we could not get to them. Soaked some bait at the boat and caught a 25" black drum. I have never caught a black drum before so that was fun. I did not know where to look for the trout I did not even try.
