Gang ...
First let me say thanks to all of you who responded to my e-mail a few months back about ufishing with topwaters. I have been learning and using many of the techniques you shared with me and am becoming somewhat proficient at using my bone colored baby spook, redfish pattern Skitterwalk and a few other baits. Bottom line, I would rather have a half dozen blowups on a topwater than catch a limit of trout on croakers. No disrespect to anyone using bait cause I will when I need to but I LOVE FISHING WITH TOPWATERS!
Anyway ... today was a spectacular day on the water here in Rockport. Just enough breeze to drift the flats, temperatures in the 60's to start off with going up to about 85! It was simply beautiful!
Drifted most of Estes flats area with scattered blowups and hookups. End of the day I ended up with 6 keeper trout to about 20", several undersized reds with the last one a keeper that went 26" and was really chunky. A picture of the red is attached to this post. Never got into a lot of fish in any one area so my best guess is that they are scattered with the unusually high tides.
Another note of interest about the day. My wife went with me and she prefers to throw shrimp under a popping cork. Well, there were no shrimp to be found in Rockport this morning so I hooked up a Gulp Shrimp for her and she couldn't have been happier. She caught as many fish as I did and did so on only one Gulp! She loved not hassling with the bait!
All in all a spectacular day with my wife, best friend and the best fishing buddy a guy could have. The occasional hug, kiss and groping my butt makes the fishing pretty sweet!!
Again, thanks for all your help in learning to fish artificials. You guys are the best! Next to my wife that is!!!
