976-TUNA.com is considering making a message board for Texans. I also post there and they were surprised by the reports. They especially liked that our seasons are rather opposite. We have more and larger tuna fall through spring. Their's is summer through fall. Some California fisherman are also interested in fishing Texas so they can have a extended their season. Would anyone on this board be interested in exchanging techniques with our California counterparts and posting messages? I don't want to pull anyone away from our board. I love this format and the people here. I thought that if more attention is paid to Texas we may see more operations and investments in our fleet. This could increase our opportunities in the future.

I would be interested.

James, I have a 12 hr charter scheduled on the Blue Fin, Terry told me you guys been catching the mess out of Tuna. Put in a good word for me for the Capt to hit is best spots, You know Hook me up, I will be sure to post here with pics when I return. I see you had a monster catch on a private 36 hr charter. What was the price on that? Are you fishing any of the long range trips in Oct.? I know you capt. one of the smaller boats (Easy come easy go, I think) but do you go out on the long range trips?

I've been known to sneak on the big boats from time to time on the long range trips. Capt. Monty on the Blue Fin is probably one of the best fishermen in the gulf, he will be glad to hook you up (remember to take care of him and the mate at the end of the day!). Blackfin have been as good as I have seen in many years, but if the shrimp boats move out of the area, that spells the end of it. When are you fishing?

My trip is scheduled for August 17th and I have informed all participants to be expected to Tip. I even thought about including it in the trip. I will see to it, that WHEN we have a good trip, they are conpensated. I will most likely collect a portion to give before the trip. That's just how I like to do it.

Good deal

Thanks for the response. I would love to see Texas sportfishing grow and have us as a destination. I fish San Diego every year and love it. I invited some guys I fish with in California to fish with us in Texas. I may end up shooting some video and submitting it to 976-TUNA if they go ahead with it. Ultimately, the more people we have supporting fishing in Texas, the more pull we have politically. If the longliners come back the way they used to we will all be pulling on bluerunners instead of YFT.

Pope, It's Been A Draem To Go To So. Cal....

and leave out on one of the long range boats (way down there) for big YFT. A two day trip out of TX. would mean big success whereas two days out of S.D wouldn't mean YFT. Maybe a 5 Lb. Albacore and a Bonita, etc. :rotfl:

To catch YFT would take the Long Range trip. I'm talking about out of So. Cal. bringing several Penn 130 class R&R's for like.......18 days at $4,400.00! Magumba!!! But I'll go along for anything! ComeFrom?

Tuna in California

I just came back from San Diego. You are sort of right. You won't get big YFT like we do in Texas on a 2 day. However, a 4 to 5 day will put you on them. We caught albacore to 40lbs on a 3 day last week. I am more concerned about Texas. They have added a section dedicated to Texas. They recognize that we have an excellent fishery and fisherman. There is a ticker section on the front page. Look for the tab entitled "Texas". It will be updated daily. There is also a message board for us. Let's school some of those Cali boys.
