started out at daylight fri in st charles and the topwater bite was on. we strung 5 trout and lost a bunch, then it just shut down. water still looked fairly fresh and cruised to the s shoreline. lots of bait popping and it loked promising. got about 50 yards from the boat and a big gator shows his head about 100 yards down the shoreline. back to the boat and it just kept slowly moving closer. decide it's time to leave st charles. goto s shoreline of aransas and find the trout bite. we string about 8 trout on limetruese shads and assassins. 1/16 oz heads over 2 ft of water with a thick grass bottom strung the most fish. biggest was 22 and 24 for the trout, with a couple keeper reds. also caught a ton of dinks and rats.

start at the same area we finished the day b4 on sat and string a few. moved further south and found a hole. a little area where the grassline was about 50 yards further in towards land than the rest of the shoreline and the fish were thick. ran into a school of big black drum that were eating our plastics and had to move futher down to find the trout or reds. we were fishing a tournament and thought we'd found the school of reds to put us on the board, but they were all black drum. we had a triple hookup at one point. another couple minutes wade down and we found the trout. strung some decent ones with the biggest going 24, which turned out to be about 4th on the board. we ran into a school of reds that were swimming close enough in stomach deep water to touch with our pole, but they wouldn't hook up, just bumped our lures. also our best trout stringer ended up 1 or 2 places out of the money. had a blast and won some $$ back from the calcutta, with the guy we chose catching the biggest red stringer.
