Probably gonna get my butt kicked w/ this one, but wanted a rod to use in C. Rica to drop back live bait for sails. Heck, they do it w/ fly rods. Here's the specs: Calstar GF700 ML (20-30 lb)
ATC GCVB guides (30,20,5-10s,10 tip)
11" EVA butt/8" fore
Fuji 22 reel seat
ATC #2 gimbal
Guidbr. A 524,9358,9009
Glass Coat
Pairing w/ Penn SS8500. This was alot different than the trout rods! Next up...spiral wrap for Calcutta 400/Calstar 270-7

Thanks guys
Kevin- doing the rings, gluing up, and turning the grips isn't a big deal...This rod had so much taper, it was a pain getting the grips on. I used a 3/4" id on butt and 1/2" id on fore. Of course I didn't have reamers large enough! If you're thinking of giving it a try, you can borrow my mandrel/ grizzly lathe.
Mark- get all the spiral info downloaded? It might have been more than you wanted.
SurfRunner- I wanted to inlay a sailfish, but it had too many sharp angles, especially the bill. As hard as it was to get the butt grip on, it would have probably opened up, if I had done it.
If I was doing it again, I'd probably do under wraps on the guides and use single foot for the last 5. We'll see how it holds up. The other concern is the 7' length...not much leverage- would probably go 6'. Live and learn! jerry

looks really nice ! ... grips can be a pain to put on sometimes... if u want a tip to use next time... use some ky jelly... yes ky jelly lol.... put some where the grip is going to be.... and up the rod blank a little.... then put some inside the grip and get it all the way in the grip with a small stick or something... those puppies will slip right down really easy... i learned this from bob renaud who is a master rod bulder from corpus... it really works !!!.... only bad thing is that the cashier will look at u funny when u are buying a couple tubes of ky jelly and epoxy and fishing supplies lol
