I recently became owner of a Regal boat with a 91 Johnson 150 strikeforce motor that had been in storage for a year. I have the motor running great but the lower unit seal is bad from drying out.
I am a novice at motor repair, and need some help. i pulled the prop and washers and took off 2 1/2 bolts, but still I am nowhere near the seal. could someone tell me how to get to the seal so i can replace it?
thanks

I will answer your question.
You have to pull the bearing carrier, there is 4 bolts way down in there, there will be 2 propshaft seals and a big o-ring.
You will need the puller to get the carrier out.

It is best left to someone who is familiar with lower units, and has the tools.

Thanks both of you, and I can see the wisdom of letting a pro handle this one, special tolls and knowledge needed.

lower unit

Pressure check and vacuum check the lower unit first. Are you sure it's not the black thick stuff that comes from the exhaust?

What I've done is drill a pilot hole into the seal and used a sheet metal screw to pull the seals out. That way I didn't have to pull the cage out. Used a deep socket to install the new ones. It worked and still does after 5 years.
