I've had mine since 2001. It's a great little skiff. It needs a 90 HP. though. It will run as shallow as you want. I guess it depends on the bottom and horsepower how shallow it will get up, but I've only been stuck once. I have a 60hp. Yamaha and it'll jump up pretty quick.
It's extraordinarily smooth in chop if it's quartered, and one of the driest boats I've ever been in. It has very little storage except coolers and two hatches up front.
It's not really made for long runs across large bays, so I usually trailer as close as I can to where I'll be fishing. It is an amazing fishing platform, very stable, and drifts well. It probably has the most sq. footage of any 17' skiff. It will fish three comfortably. Mine is built like a tank. It's been through a lot in the last seven years and I fish almost daily. I've run it in all conditions and have never been disappointed. It does have a limited range (18 gal. tank)

BTW mine was the last year before the step front deck. It also has a small console which I prefer because you have more room to get around.

I have had my new to me 17' Flatscat for about three Mo. now and love it. The boat I had before was a 18' Fish Hawk ( came out of Majak RFL mold ). The Flatscat is by far a much better boat. Other boat was rough and wet. Like Kenny said the 17' Flatscat is a very smooth and dry boat. Wish I would have got one a long time ago.

Get the 17' Flatscat, you will never reget it.

Thanks for the comments on the boat. I have a 90etec I'm thinking of taking off of my 17' Shoalwater Sport, which is for sale by the way, and putting it on this 17' Flatscat. I hear the boat performs very well with that motor.

I've had my 17' Cat for >3yrs and I'm very satisfied w/it. It will run scarey shallow and is plenty fast especially w/my new E-TEC 90hp that has a 13.75" x 16 pitch Bauman 4 blade ss prop on it. I have the severly areated, large volume intake water screens and the engine was programmed for the XD50 oil. Gps top end speed 41.5 mph w/two large large guys and gear. The 22 gal fuel tank gives me a range of ~90 miles. The entire rig is easily towed w/a 6 cylinder vehicle engine.

These are some photos of the Land Cut trip earlier this month. We were grossly loaded down w/supplies and made the 28 mile trip w/problems crusing @ 30 mph.
