Will treated landscape timbers make good fence posts for barbed wire. I see barbed wire fences with metal T-post but every 5-6 metal posts they have a wooden post. Looks good and I was wondering if landscape timbers would work.

Nope. They say they are treated but one in five will rot at the ground and break off within 5 years. Personal experience. I had 80 mama cows and fences on over 600 acres. If you want it to last as long as possible - Cedar posts are the best and most cost effective option in my opinion.

I used landscape timber for flower bed border. Some last almost 20 years while others rot away in less than five years. It is very obvious quality control in treatment and lumber density is at same level as Made in China products.

The treated 4x4 lumber is excellent. They all last 20 years as fence posts.

The biggest problem with concreting wood is if the concrete is all the way around the post: it just makes a "cup" that no water can get out of. If you put the bottom of the post in gravel, or even dirt for that matter, then concrete from there up, the water can drain out the bottom. At that point, the concrete is really not much different for holding moisture than dirt is, at least around here..

Landscape timbers aren't kiln dried before treatment so yea it won't hold up after couple years..old LST were so they held up a lot better than new ones...lowes and hd do the same with their 4x4's from time to time to keep prices lower than competition..Look on stamp of 4x4's and you will see a kd19 stamp on it meaning it was kiln dried to 19% holding the moisture content from exceeding just that for before treatment.. One thing you can do is dip LST in roof cement before putting in ground to help rotting..product knowledge for Sunday morning..
