Do any of you give your Lab a haircut or ever have? We spoke about getting his hair cut. I know they don't have a lot of hair, but was wondering if it would keep him cooler this summer?

My daughter is a dog groomer and has been doing it for years. According to her, the short coated dogs that shed should never be shaved. Their hair is not meant to be cut in that manner and it almost always grows back in patches, not evenly like you would expect. She recommends a good brushing with a stiff bristle brush to removed shed hair and keep them bathed. Besides toe nail clipping, labs don't need much else.

We get our chocolate lab shaved 2-3x a year. Generally early Spring and Summer. She definitely is much more frisky after getting her buzz cut. We take her to Pet Co. Here are a few photos I just took. We took her about 3 weeks ago.

One of our two labs has a very thick coat which we've had shaved every spring for the last few years. He actually will go this week to have it done. Not cheap being a large dog but worth it in my opinion. Never had a problem personally with it growing back uneven or in patches. By September, you can't tell he was cut at all.

My wife is a dog groomer and has been shaving labs for years!!.
Most of the the labs are inside dogs so a sunburn isn't a big issue but they will get cold very easy. She also will not back shave a lab as it will irritate the skin and she guts with a #10.
If you want you can call her and ask her about it (we are located in Livingston) and she can give you all the info you may want
