Cheeves Brothers Steakhouse is a place to consider.

I grew up in Temple back in the 60's/70's but moved away for college and then onward. Cheeves Brothers used to have a clothing store back at that time. They opened the steakhouse long after that. FWIW, they get good reviews and it's one of the finer restaurants in that small town.

Yes, Lake Belton. A beautiful lake. I have very fond memories of that lake.

Memory lane...The 1st Calvary insignia that CM uses in his avatar was prominently painted at the top of what we referred to as 'Bee Rock', which was also part of Ft. Hood. I remember fishing for bass at night near Bee Rock when soldiers were doing exercises. In the black of night, I hear several booms and the sky lights up with floating lights that illuminated the ground below. It was awesome.

Sorry for the digression.

One other thing, maybe the most important thing as it relates to food.

When you hear BBQ pit masters talk about the Central Texas influence on BBQ....they're talking about the area that Temple sits smack in the middle of. The area has a heavy Czech Bohemian influence and they made great sausage and BBQ. Clem Mikeska's BBQ was the place to go in Temple when I was growing up. Clem's brother, Rudy, also had places in other cities. Aaron Franklin of Franklin's in Austin pays homage to Central Texas BBQ in his books. Much of his BBQ technique originated from the pit masters who came before him in Central Texas.
