I'm gonna do a search, but I thought I would throw this out to y'all.

Mary and I were going through some stuff and came across a letter opener her dad made while in Burma in WWII.

Can any one identify the caliber and the make? My apologies for the quality.

1.Broken down
2.One piece
3.The markings.

CC I searched "Headstamps" for an hour last nite....British, Jap, Russian. U.S. 1000s of em. No Luck.

Do you know what theater he was in...Europe or Pacific?
My first guess was .303 British....122 Manufacturers..nada

Ok here is what I have found. The round you have is most likely a 7.7x58 Jap. The Head-Stamp marking "TE" identifies the Manufacturer of the ammo as Toyo Seiki, LTD. Though I couldn't find an actual picture of one of the Head-stamps I do believe this is the what type of ammo you have. If you want to measure to make sure, here are the specs for the 7.7 Jap.

Bullet Diameter___________.313
Case Neck Diameter_______.338
Case Shoulder Diamete____.429
Case Base Diameter ______.468
Case Rim Diameter________.470
Case Rim Thickness_______.040
Case Length______________2.09
Overall Cartridge Length_____2.95
Military Bullet Weight_______175

Thanks to all of you for your help!

The length of the casing is real close. This is the only thing Mary has that was her dad's so it is well taken care of. Thanks again y'all!

Does look like a .303 Britsh casing. Measure it Rick, from the base to the tip of the casing and see if it's 2.2" long.

Nice that it was kept and not lost after all these years. Take care of it.
