I have a quick question. I'm going camping/hunting with a buddy from college this weekend. It will be on about 100 acres just outside of Jasper, Tx. We will be there for two nights and two days. I'm looking for advice on how to locate or at least better my chances of finding a couple hogs to shoot. Should I put out some sort of feed or attractant, or is this not enough time for it to work? I know there are hogs all over the place, but locating them has always proved difficult. Any suggestions other than just watching a feeder would be greatly appreciated.
when you get home today find a big bucket and fill it 3/4 full of corn, then poor beer (miller lite) bc it sucks anyway. Then get some red pop and add to it. It's a little late (you need a week) but close the lid and then let it fermit until you get there. Find a secluded spot and poor it out, the little piggies just love this stuff
Does the corn soaked in grape Kool-Aid have to ferment or is this something that could be done overnight (ie. in one nights time). I take it they just like the sweetness? Also, the pig attractant stuff was also recommended to me by others so I'll definately look for it at Sportsman's Warehouse. I think I'll make some soaked corn along with the attractant and see what happens. Do hogs eat mainly during the day or should we be spotlighting the area at night as well? Thanks for the replies.
do both, try and put that stuff by a watering hole though where they are wallowing......early in the morning and late in the afternoon are your best bets besides spotlighting them......but with no moon you will catch them out alot later in the morning and earlier in the morning....couple of weeks ago i shot one with my bow at 8:30 in the morning coming to the feeder, there was no moon then
Depending on how the place is set up, your best bet will be to corn the roads and hunt at night. If it is a smaller place, your friend may not want to drive it at night, as it will not be good for deer hunting in the morning.
Anyway, if you can, drive the roads about dark with a sack of corn in the floorboard of the truck and just let it trickle out. By scattering it, it will take them a while to clean it all up. Drive the roads a few hours later with spotlight and have fun!
If your spotlighting this time of year I would call the Game Warden and let him know your just spotting for hogs.Grab a post hole digger, dig about 2-3 ft.,pour your favorite concoction in hole, cover with dirt.Go grab a bite to eat.Go get beer and ice.Sit by said hole until hogs come.Wait until you've got a good shot and try to take out a couple at one time.By the time they get to the bottom of that hole, you could drive a vw in there and never see it.Good luck.
Listen, hogs are disgusting animals that eat and sleep in cr@p but don't count on them being down with miller light. I'm sure they draw the line on what they will eat or drink at some point. The burlap sack soaked in oil or diesel will work....
10-4 on the burlap sack soaked in oil.Once again, dig hole with post hole digger, sink 5-6 ft.post in hole(concrete opt.)staple or nail burlap sack to post and pour oil on it(sorry EPA)They will really tear it up.
When you say to pour oil on the burlap bag, are you referring to Diesel fuel as was first mentioned or are you referring to motor oil (new or used?). Will the hogs come to it immediately or do they need some time to accidentially run across it. I could see them maybe smelling the diesel or burned motor oil and being attracted to it for whatever reason. Again, thanks a bunch for all of the pointers. We don't really plan on doing much hard core deer hunting, we are just looking to go kick around the woods and drink some beer. We'll definately spread some corn around and see what we can coax up. I would really like to spotlight some pigs though, a nice 50lbder would go great on my pit at home. Thanks and keep the pointers coming.
Ive allways used a gallon of Diesel on the Burlap..or used motor oil .. & the coolaid trick can soak for a day or better...
I personally use a posthole digger & dig a hole 4' deep..then I get a 4" pipe 8ft long & drill 3/4 in holes in it every 6"..all over it....the pigs get a treat,But cant eat it all up..It'll keep them comin back for more..
Remmy..wait till you see whats cookin @ our lease..Here piggy piggy..
Oxx..
