After being dead weight opening weekend due to my accident, we went to Catarina for a management hunt this past weekend. A number of management bucks were killed, mostly old 8pts. For some reason a number of my pictures did not come out, but I have a few that did. The two biggest bucks dressed out at 155 and 153. One buck was a wierd buck that had a normal horn one one side and a abnormal on the other. He was a beautiful deer, large, black, and healthy, and 6.5 years old. The oldest buck killed was a 8.5 year old that field dressed 103, looking at him on the ground he looked 3.5, with a narrow nose and long legs. Aging on the hoof is not an exact science. Many of these bucks had been seen in game cameras and already aged, some were 2 years off when we got them on the ground. I was finally able to hunt. I hunted from the front seat of a mule for 2 hunts, I could lay over if my hips started hurting too bad. I also managed to get in a blind on Sunday morning. I killed a 3.5 year old 3pt, he had a damaged pedicle. I then was able to skin and quarter him on my own! That may not sound like much to most of you, but with a broken hip and seperated pelvis 3 weeks ago, I have not been able to do much by myself lately. I still cannot walk without crutches, but I can stand. Hopefully by Thanksgiving I will be able to walk to a stand in Rocksprings to hunt. Here are some pictures of the weekend.

my grandfather broke his hip a few years ago and i know how hard it is to get back to normal. Your standing and hunting only 3 wks after that awesome. Nice deer!
Thanks guys, it sure felt good to be out actually hunting. BaldHunter, that is a BB gun, there were several kids in camp. I still hope to get into the swing of thinks to provide some venison to those who need it. (No more calls please, I have plenty of takers, LOL) I hunt with a .280 Rem mountain rifle most of the time, and then either a weatherby 30-06 or .300 WBM. I could have killed him with a muzzleloader, I shot him at about 60yds. I watched him for 30 minutes to be sure he was not a yearling, and I thought he was too muscled up for a 2.5. Sure would hate to make a misteak down there, I get to hunt because I work on camp for them. Here is one of the kids with one of his bucks, he took 2 nice 8s hunting with his dad.

Glad to hear that you are hunting again bigbuck. I read your thread about your fall and it is very good to hear that you are able to hunt this year. Congrats on the deer.
