My Neighbor Shot This 9 Point This Morning Trailing A Doe. He Thought He Had A Real Good Deer Until He Saw His Left Side. I Think He Would Have Been Close To 20'' If Not For His Deformed Left Side. I Think My Neighbor Said He Was 14 1/2'' (i'm Assuming Inside). With The New 13'' Rule This Deer Was Barely Legal. What If He Would Have Measured 12 1/2''. I Wonder If The Game Warden Makes Exceptions To The Rule?
YOU MIGHT. HIS NAME IS GORDON BYRD. THE DEER DID NOT COME FROM HIS PLACE. HE ONLY OWNS ABOUT 10 ACRES BESIDE ME. HE HAS A PRETTY NICE LEASE JUST SOUTH OF JEWETT (ABOUT 15 MILES FROM ME). HE ASKED ME TO GET ON IT A FEW YEARS AGO BUT THEY WANTED $600 AND NO BOW HUNTING. HIS SON KILLED A REAL NICE 10 THIS YEAR. IT COME OFF A PLACE BY MY COUSINS WHERE I KILLED MY 8. JOE'S GOT TO SEE HIM OVER AT HIS GRANDPA'S WHEN THEY DROPPED HIM OFF TO GET HIM PROCESSED. I HAVEN'T SEEN HIM BUT JOE SAID IT WAS THE BEST DEER HE HAS SEEN FROM AROUND HERE IN A LONG TIME. I WILL SEE IF HE HAS ANY PICTURES I CAN POST.
Where is Leon co did he come from. I have lease behide Hill Top Lakes. Was he near there? We have been seing some really nice deer just a little young. Letting them walk for next year just hoping the neighbors arnt killing them. That is a reallly nice buck!
Great deer for Leon county! My dad has a small place there and we are really hoping that the 13" rule will help. Right now the neighbors shoot anything with hair.

I BET WE ARE PRETTY CLOSE TO EACH OTHER. MY BOW STAND IS PROBABLY JUST A MILE OR TWO FROM THE BACK OF HILLTOP. I CAN HEAR THE AIRPLANES TAKING OFF AND LANDING FROM MY STAND. I AM TRYING TO GET DEER MANAGEMENT ON MY PLACE AND THE SURROUNDING AREAS. MY BUDDY TOLD ME YOU HAVE TO HAVE AT LEAST 750 ACRES. I THINK I CAN GET THAT MUCH BUT SOME OF IT ISN'T JOINING (DOES THAT MATTER?). I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT IT BUT MY BUDDY GAVE ME A # TO CALL OF SOME GUY OVER IN CENTERVILLE THAT CAN HELP ME. MY NEIGHBORS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF ME JUST STARTED DEER HUNTING THIS YEAR AND I THINK THEY THINK IF IT HAS HORNS TO SHOOT IT.I DON'T THINK IT WOULD WORK OUT TO GOOD UNLESS YOU GET PARTICIPATION FROM EVERYBODY AROUND YOU. THAT DEER IN THE PICTURE CAME FROM OUTSIDE OF JEWETT ABOUT 3 OR 4 MILES OFF OF HWY39 SOUTH. SORRY I DON'T HAVE ANY BETTER PICTURES OF HIM.
I owned land in Leon Co. for 7 years and have seen deer like that on the run! The county has tremendous potential with great pecan/acorn crops every year and plenty of water. The good bucks only survive on Fort Boggy State Park or the large tracks with little pressure!! The 13 " rule will and doe management will help Leon County tremendously as the old timers still won't shoot does and every young buck is fair game! My buddy lives and Centerville and has this guy's two Grandfathers on his wall from 20 years ago!
Captain, I don't know Gordon, I was thinking it might have been Joe. (You know this is Tuley right?)
As far as management, the more people you can get involved in a co-op the better, but I don't know the qualifications for getting permits, etc. I'd suggest the TPWD website for starters.
