Alright got a few questions , maybe i can get som helpfull info.
(Reason i ask was i seen alot of ducks in and around christmas bay lately)
I know it is legal to duck hunt the bays, but was is the rules when hunting there.
are you legally able to park on the off-roads {dirt roads in salt grass} (like where we park to wade fish and walk/wade to the flats- with the guns?
And how far must you be from the paved roads and houses to shot?
And is there any laws about having to be in the water, or on a small island- separte from the actual mainland island.? Or is that area were we parked still included as public property?
Any info, or other info we be greatly welcomed. Cause I know i aint the only one with the questions.
Most of the duck blinds you see on the south shore of Christmas can be accessed by walking from those roads in the salt grass. YOu can also just sit on some of the points on the south shore line but just don't get too close to the houses. The huntable areas are fairly obvious. If you have a boat and go straight across Christmas bay from Earnies #2 you hit the Brazoria Refuge. there are some lakes and ponds in the grass but also a lot of rattlesnakes and a few gators. Get info from them in Clute on their rules.
Glad someone started this thread.............I have questions as well
I have seen the pictures of guys duck hunting out of bay boats. How far do you have to walk from where you park the boat? I figured the ducks would see the big white boats and avoid the area. When I duck hunted years ago we took great pains to hide our 14' jon boat and still hunted several hundred yards from the boat.
I now have a 2220 Blazer bay and would like to try duck hunting again. Hunting the bays seems like the ticket.
The north side of Christmas bay gets very shallow in the winter. YOu could easily set your sruff out, park the boat a couple hundred yards down the coast and just hunt off of a bucket or small stool. YOu could camo up and just sit still till you are ready to shoot or make a small (low in height) roll up blind of some kind and plant it in the sand around you. If I ever did it again, that's probably the way I'd try it. I've always wanted to try the cove off rattlesnake point but never have.
south shoreline -while wadin, 2 groups of about 8-10 teal each, 2 shovs,a big mess of pinnies, a redhead ( almost landed on me); a couple groups of un-id-able ducks(wasnt payin to close attetion to what they were- i was fishin)
