Zac I have had my eyes on breathables for over a year now. Received a pair of the Hodgeman's last year and took them back after hearing the negative reports on them. Did some research and zeroed in on the Simms. Picked up a pair of the lightweights from FTU yesterday and they had a good selection. Might have to try them out this weekend.
Well I just made the plunge and jumped into a new pair of Simms G3's. They better last a long freakin' time for $450!
I've been through so many pairs of Hodgeman's from neoprene to breathable it's hard to keep track of how many I've had but I've spent way more than $450 over the years so we'll see if they quality vs. quantity argument holds water...no pun intended.
Funny thing is the longest lasting pair I've had are 20 year old canvas/rubber waders I bought for maybe $40. It's like being inside a damp Hefty bag but they're tough as nails - and oh the stories those waders could tell!
I'm into my second season with my G3's and am loving 'em more every time I put them on. I've got Hodgeman neo's and breathable lying all over my cabin - all of 'em leak. The straw that broke the proverbial back was going through 3 brand new pairs of Hodgeman breathables to find one that didn't leak - until about the 4th wade trip. Also got the Simms Guide Series rain/wading jacket after I spoke with EJ about one I saw him wearing once. What an awesome combination.
