To be honest, i know i just started to fish with lures, but i havent, nor have i ever heard of anyone catching gafftop or hardheadson a lure. Well today was a weird day as i caught my PB gaftop on a speckled super spook jr. Dont know if its too common to catch one with a lure or not, not to mention i dont really hook these too often anyway.
A classic example is catching them under birds or in the lights. They pop the water like a trout and love lures! Nothing worse than setting up a perfect drift in to working birds and trout to have thd slimiest of the slimy wreck the party
I bet he faught good.......I caught a hardhead once on a topwater in West matty in the back of Cotton. Funny thing is I was throwing at some reds I could see.

Wreck the party indeed-well not always! At the very moment I realize it's not trout but gafftop, all the wind goes outa of my sails only to find my nine year old couldn't care less! He can fish all day on top of them! We catch em on soft plastics and he has a great time!

I know it sux for you but as long as your little boy is havin fun then it really doesn't matter.
Just like their freshwater cousins. I've had flatheads and channel cats hit soft plastics, spinner baits, crankbaits and of course live baits like shiners or bluegill.
Caught my PB flathead on the lower Colorado river in Arizona back in the day on a spinner bait. 26 pounds of ****** off flathead cat on 8 pound spinning gear!
