Conservation Crossfire/Fisheries Issues A place for everyone interested in fisheries discussion from a regulatory/political standpoint. The laws surrounding fishing and our fisheries are changing, and this is the place to learn about changes on the horizon. Please keep it civil. We can disagree with one another, without becoming disagreeable.

Hey Capt. Keyboard, We all know who we are....who are you??? Inquiring minds want to know.....NOT!!! No credibility at all. I know this has been said before, but maybe its time to say again. Its easy to sit at your desk and type all this tripe out anonymously. Slamming the efforts of anyone trying to better things is petty, chicken and generally childish. So take your kindergarten behavior back to whatever hole you crawled out of and shut your pie hole...or get to a fisheries meeting, write your representitive or just do something constructive as so many of us have been doing for many years!

Everyone here knows your affiliations. You are not helping your team attacking the Lady that managed to get 450,000 dollars worth of engineering and environmental work done on the restoration of the vital passes. She did not deduct a dime for her 12 plus years of hard work. FYI Judge Mills is in close contact with Lynn as she owns all the data to back up the permit within Save Cedar Bayou , inc. She and I asked the County of Aransas to partner with her so there would be a local Governmental entity to ease the permit process and future work.

I think the time has come to support the restoration of our lost vital wetlands and sea grass beds. I know of few that would have worked as hard as she has and others have for not a red dime.

There are a very few that want to cause problems. We all know in Aransas County who you are and your affiliations.

Little Jimmy, everyone in Aransas County knows my affiliations, care to enlighten me, I must be missing something. Evidently you and your Aransas County cronies don't know has much as you think.

Why do you need Aransas County when you rub shoulders with top brass in Austin and Washington? Surely you wouldn't seek help from county folk Gem. Unless, unless they are in the "know" . Part of the secret circle, keepers of the vital data scribed on the sacred cocktail napkin.

One needs a local public works sponsor such as a mayor, county judge, or some other offical having "local control" and jurisdiction of the project to apply for a permit of this kind - namely public works on public lands.

If you knew anything about how permits and grants work, you would already know that. Getting state and national backing is a great idea - and was done in this case - but a local sponsor is always critical to the task. For example, when we do beach renourishment on SPI, our Mayor actually signs the papers. Yep, the mayor of a dinky little town of less that 6,000 residents. You can't give public money to a private concern, period.

Unfortunately, CIAP and other kinds of state/federal matching funds dried up in this horrible economy and times of austerity, money which had been used for beach, erosion (CEPRA), marsh restoration (FWS), and so forth. It is hoped that BP settlement money can be applied to this project, which again would require a local sponsor from a local official. Private sources of funds can be used but it is understood that the money is donated to the public good, with no strings attached.

Hopefully the wait won't be much longer, there are folks actually working on the funding that don't feel the need to make such statements as the ones posted by some on here.

Cedar Bayou Question

Can anyone tell me what the current status of the dredging is? How much money had been raised and how much is needed? What is the predicted time line at this point? I have seen very little in the way of information on this since this e-mail and there was not much information in the prior post. I have a camp at Charlies so the dredging of the pass will effect some areas where I fish. I would like to know where things stand without all the drama. Just looking for some information about how things are going.

Thanks David Hemphill
