I notice that when I put the Calais 100A spool on the Chronarch 100D or Core100Mg that the performance of the reels increase dramtically. Are there any clearance or size issues that would hinder the reel while there's a fish on or if it would tear up any of the gearing, etc. in the long run? If not, how much would the charge of a Calais 100A spool cost?
As far as I can tell it fits correctly. The 100A spool seems to have a little bit of play when it's in the 100D or the Core, but not much. I've got the 3 of them in front of me right now and I can't tell any difference. I've done this a few times in front of customer's and now the few i've shown are wanting to make sure they do fit before they buy them just because it made that much of a difference. If you can determine that it does fit correctly, where can they be bought at?
I'm pretty sure the spool shaft dimensions are different and the overall diameter of the spool may be smaller. It will fit but it could cause line to get stuck between the spool and frame. In my opinion I would not offer this as an "upgrade". There is potential for issues down the road.
