Conservation Crossfire/Fisheries Issues A place for everyone interested in fisheries discussion from a regulatory/political standpoint. The laws surrounding fishing and our fisheries are changing, and this is the place to learn about changes on the horizon. Please keep it civil. We can disagree with one another, without becoming disagreeable.

Hurricane Option

One word: hurricanes. We were lucky last year because we didn't have any, but if the season swings back to what is normally expected, we'll get some whirlie-girlies in the Gulf. Even a good tropical storm can bring winds of 40 MPH and seas of over 12 feet. Because of the fetch of the Gulf, these waves can virtually shut down the entire fishery - for example, Ike's waves were felt from the Keys to old Mexico.

Taken like that, it would be nice to get a few days back if we lose some because of a hurricane. -sammie
