Conservation Crossfire/Fisheries Issues A place for everyone interested in fisheries discussion from a regulatory/political standpoint. The laws surrounding fishing and our fisheries are changing, and this is the place to learn about changes on the horizon. Please keep it civil. We can disagree with one another, without becoming disagreeable.

Letters 1st draft

Let me know what you think...give me some feedback and I'll make adjustments before they go out. This one is for Mike Jennings. I'm going to make something close for Scott Hickman, Eugene Hensley, Steve Cunningham and others. E-mail and send out to all the places I can think of. What do you think?

Letter #1

To: Whom it may concern,

The quote below is from Mike Jennings. He is a charter captain from Texas that supports SOS which is separating the charter for hire captains from the recreational captains. What he fails to mention is that the charter captains will be allowed to keep more fish than us recreational fishermen and have a much longer season. You will have to pay them to catch and keep the amount of fish they can and you would have to pay them to fish the same season they would be allowed. All under the guise of doing it for the recreational fishermen that go on their boats. Tell me you would stay in recreational fishing if this happened and spread to all of the different fish species. Trust me, if the foot gets in the door with red snapper, it is all over. Contact the Gulf Council and your politicians. Please also contact all the industries that count on you and your friends. We need their support or we all lose.

"if you have a separate CFH sector , you will have a separate TAC , be it what ever % you want to come up with ,and with the CHF sector already being limited access you have a fixed effort ,then combine that with daily validated reporting.

when you reach your TAC you stop fishing ,again when you reach your TAC YOU STOP FISHING . if you stop fishing before you exceed your TAC , you have effectively stopped overfishing in over half of the recreational sector, under the current management plan . plane and simple .this can be done via several different scenarios , not just with catch shares . that is the difference that sector separation makes cut and dry"
