Conservation Crossfire/Fisheries Issues A place for everyone interested in fisheries discussion from a regulatory/political standpoint. The laws surrounding fishing and our fisheries are changing, and this is the place to learn about changes on the horizon. Please keep it civil. We can disagree with one another, without becoming disagreeable.

I am trippin here, I didn't know that it was a accepted practice for charters to waste fish like that. Do you target deep water snaps and chuck them back to flipper on all your charters Mike? I hate to see them air bubbles foaming out of their scales even when I am going to keep one. Just kinda nasty Partner.

seriously , i personally wouldn't run that type of trip , i find it counter productive to the leaps and bounds we have made in the red snapper fishery over the last several years ,agree with the management or not , agree or disagree with the reasoning , but we can all agree that the red snapper fishery is stronger now than it has been in the last decade.this type of catch and release fishing will harm this fishery even if it you can argue that it may be negligible , its still distasteful , and we attack Johnny as being greedy and just thinking of himself

on the other hand ,unlike most i live 5 minutes from the jetties and i am on the water several days a week , i see illegally poached snapper being cleaned on a regular basis every time we get a decent weather window , and i listen to those same individuals complain about the practices of the head boats . I personally see there distaste for the federal mismanagement , but see there actions just as distasteful. it is just as counter productive as a catch and release trip , even if we can claim that it is negligible and we justify it in our minds because we dislike the management practices of the powers at be.

remimber that when someone post up a fishing report of all the 15 lb red snapper they caught in state waters here in a couple of weeks , we follow there post with comments of how much we enjoyed there report and tell them how they did a good job , all the wile knowing they caught the fish in federal waters , but hey its justified because NMFS is too heave handed and we like being rebels when it comes to federal heavy handedness

and yes im for real , seems at times we all throw stones on our glass houses

SOS BS

What a day.

I began the day hearing voices and now I am ending the day simple minded.

I guess it is simple minded to try to stick to the issues and shine the light on the SOS BS.

Mike Jennings: "Mike, the difference here , is personally i hope you succeed in all of life's endeavors . as well as i hope Johnny Williams is successful" Were you being sarcastic here too? I'm sorry, but I didn't read any sarcasm in your remarks.

All the best,
Tom

Whoaa Cowboy, your a CFH and you think snapper can't be caught in state waters during the winter? I would think if your worth your salt as a CFH, you'd know better than to say that,... or am I just an exceptional fisherman? Is the state waters fishing really that poor out of Freeport vs. Matagorda/Port OcConner?

Lucky , ill put it to you this way , i will make this public right here and now ill gas up my contender , put it in the water tomorrow morning and i cover all expenses , i will lay $100 cold hard cash with the video of me paying it to be played on 2cool to anyone who can show me a limit of legal snapper within nine nautical miles of the shore and 20 miles of the freeport jetty .

but truth be known your just probably an exceptional fisherman
