Conservation Crossfire/Fisheries Issues A place for everyone interested in fisheries discussion from a regulatory/political standpoint. The laws surrounding fishing and our fisheries are changing, and this is the place to learn about changes on the horizon. Please keep it civil. We can disagree with one another, without becoming disagreeable.

sos-catch shares-mis-speaking

Speaking of mis-representation. Mike and Scott, ya'll have been telling us at every opportunity that you don't support catch shares/ifqs and that sos / sector separation is not about catch shares . Someone from your camp seems to be mis-speaking to us . Seems the leader/spokesman/standard bearer for sos is definitely a catch share supporter . What is up with this ? Ya'll have been quick to crucify Zales for his statements, are you going to own up to some questionable positions/comments from your side ? My position is that we are all a bunch of fishermen trying to do things on here (2 cool) that we aren't real good at . We all (me included) seem to be residing in glass houses so it may be time to stick to the issues rather than throw stones . Lucy, I think sos has some splainin to do ! Mike Nugent 361 779 8389

“You can’t have a catch share until you have a separate accountable sector,” Jarvis said which would be five or six years down the road.

Texasflag4 Seems to be alot of inside information leaking out about SOS and Ole Jarvis

Capt. Mike
This getting to be too funny once the truth is surfacing. A few thoughts on the subject.
Seems ole Jarvis was asked by Jeff Berger of Environmental Defense Fund fame their point man and author of the SOS plan on “Catch Shares” to stay off 2cool. I guess that is why Scott Hickman, Mike Jennings and ole level wind were trying to do the heavy lifting for EDF on “Catch Shares” here in Texas. Seems they let too many cats out of the bag for ole Jeff Berger with EDF. I would guess that when EDF finds out what a mess all these guys made of the EDF Catch Share plan Jeff may be needing to find a place to move his 401k when EDF drops him like a rock.
Man these guys have been like the ole monkey and the football. Not a pretty sight.
Jarvis latest drivel is the Recreational sector is throwing the for hire sector under the bus. Ole Jarvis is wrong just the SOS for hire sector are not well thought of by the mainstream for hire sector and the recreational sector. The only bus tracks will be down ole Jarvis and the SOS backsides. Everyone else is smarter than start a war they can’t finish. Rest assured most of the for hire sector hates SOS. The headboat guys except for Jonnie Williams are running from catch shares. These guys have the most consistent catch records in the head boat sector but understand it would hurt a lot of the smaller operators. God bless them for standing up and doing the right thing just saying no to catch shares or sector separation.
The RFA has always had a good relationship with the for hire sector and will continue to do so. We are not worried about the hand picked few EDF puppets holding dual commercial and recreational permits that have chosen to follow ole Jarvis.
Remember Jarvis call Jeff Berger at EDF so he can give you the ok to reply. I wouldn’t want you to get crossways with one of the very few friends you have even though he may be headed out the door once his bosses figure out how you boys like a common government mule “Kicked down the new Barn” EDF built for You and your team at SOS.

SOS - Unraveling???
"Out of frustration, some area captains signed on as supporters of a Save Our Sector plan. Now they are having second thoughts."

http://www.destin.com/articles/sos-1...men-boats.html

How could this happen with such a credible leader inquiring minds need to ask?

My vision for SOS is not IFQs and Gary is a spokeman as am I everyone has an opinion, We meaning all CFH captains will have a say so under our plan and I like having a say so in my destiny instead of the Federal Government giving me whatever. Days at seas could be considered a catch share and would I like a program like that sure would accountability bring me more days to fish heck yes would a tag system or catch card system bring accountability to the priv rec boat owner heck yeah, and would they priv boat owner get more days by doing that oh yes they would. Gentleman its simple and moving forward with a good plan increases our days on the water and eventually you will see the light I am sure. There are many ways to skin this cat and our way makes lots of sense. I will work with OC CCA ED RFA and NMFS plus Captains and Anglers that want to roll up their sleeves find some common ground to find real solutions to our problems. The conspiricy theories and enviro plots are getting old lets have some productive dialogue and get something done. Capt. Mike when is yalls next meeting in Port Aransas? Can some of our captains sit in and have discussion with your guys? Regards and Calm Seas.. Capt. Scott

Jim, Hand picked puppets most on our Texas list are 6 pack outboard guys. Have you checked the list lately. Small? looks like we are getting it covered in Texas. The two largest charter fleets are Galveston and Freeport and we have the majority of permitted Capts supporting SOS go look and also RFA members in that list. I have the utmost respect for Capt. Nugent and know that he will be for sector seperation also within time and all his fears are put to rest.

You sound like a broken record! Spewing the exact same thing every time. Now, at least you are admitting that everyone's plan of SOS is different. The loudest ones are looking out for their own interests and the rest are trying to figure out what ya'll are doing. No wonder things are unraveling. Everyone is digging in and figuring out that there really isn't a plan for everyone, but a plan for a select few.

You are incorrect, I stand by my message and the plan. SOS supporters have clarity on the plan and so does the Gulf Council. You bring a plan to the Council they can work with I challenge all you naysayers if it is better than ours I will support it. Broken record I think not, focused yes!

Where am I incorrect??? Lets discuss it in minute detail! PLEASE!!! Lets get to the nuts and bolts of this plan. Where is it? Where is the info you guys are pushing for? Exactly what is it you are planning on getting from the Gulf Council? Give me exact numbers and the formulas on how you got there. Heck I have Levelwind and even Jarvis telling me that VMS is not a necessity, but elsewhere it is the key to accountability. Your plan is all over the place. It's a moving target. It is a moving target for a reason! Your the one that said you have your own opinions on it...Post up the details...
