Well..............I have been wanting to go to Africa for so long and it looks like it won't be in the cards for a while so...........................................!
While at the ranch with a group of hunters a few weeks ago we were after a Adax--Blackbuck--and a Axis Buck in one of our pastures. We couldn't get a good shot on any for awhile and kept seeing these Gemsbok...........I just could not stand it any longer--went back to the lodge and talked to the Boss---Got a firm price--and off we went again.
I don't shoot anything if I am out with Hunters at all--just my rule to myself till all have shot out.
My Hunters "Forced Me" to go ahead and take the shot to get the ball rolling--"Naw--I ain't shootin' till you guys get your Bucks!" They promptly told me to "Get my but out there and get him!" This herd of Gemsbok "Bolt" at the site of anything--we had a fairly good shot about 200 yds. so I took it as they were getting ready to get out of Dodge.--Went down like a bag of hammers!
We kept hunting for awhile and came back at dark to take pic's with a Drink Re Fill of course!
He was a big male--big bases and very good tine!
Very happy to start on my Antelope Slam even if it started in Texas!!
Gemsbok have a very regal look and I enjoyed hunting them, although it took a number of stalks and a wily old tracker to get mine. I am looking at him now in front of my desk.
Way to go! You must have made an excellent shot as those things are really tough beasties. I would love to have an addax, they are very classy looking. I've heard that they are nearly extinct in their native lands while we have a stable population here in the States.
I was one of the lucky ones that witnessed the harvest of this trophy and let me told ya Robbies 7 mag made this this beast buckle right there....not even one step, heck of a shot. We had a great time at the DoubleTT as allways and great to finally see Robbie get to have a turn at the trigger.
Harl
That dude was heavy--I would say easy 850-900--Took a hitch hoist to get him in the truck! We dont have a scale that goes that high to weigh--My Boys skin for us so they had him in the truck bed and on a skinning sled to skin and cape him out for me--$100 tip there fo sho! I kicked back and had a few with the guys to celabrate!
I have been wanting to get one of those for quite awile--First got a herd started 3yrs ago and added on from time to time when we could find some good ones!
This particular one was trying to breed the Oryx!!! They will cross breed so I took him out--he had KILLED one of our Orix Males the week before so it was his time to go...................ON MY WALL and in my BELLY!
Very good eats--Great Steaks and a 5' Backstrap to boot!--Harl--Your Steak Packs are ready Brother! Always a great time hunting with you guys!--Putting up 5 game cams to pattern that double beam Axis for you! FYI! Alfalfa and the works! CU again in Turkey Season--I have the 2nd and 3rd weekends--Be good to get a jump-start on him if he is bulbed out good.
Now for one of those Wildebeast!----Jimmy Sparks gets all my Taxadermy and yes he is prolly happy! He does very good work.
For that much money you could've gone to South Africa! Believe it or not, African hunts are not as expensive as you think. My husband got an impala, kudu, wildebest, warthog for $3500, included room and board (very NICE accomodations--includes laundry services, great food--3 cooked meals a day, open bar, computer access), transportation from the airport to the concession and back to the airport. Also included souvenir stops complete with the guide to make sure we weren't getting ripped off. The airfare was around $2000. You may want to look into an African hunt.

The hunt fee is not that much overseas but lookout for the expense of shipping your trophy's back and the time. That is the major cost in the Africa hunts from what I understand.
Me and Johnny are still going to Africa one day but this is as close as I can get for now!
I was so jazzed to get that Big Boy I didn't even measure him up! Ha! I need to call Jimmy and get the #'s!
Damian your welcome at our table anytime brother....................but you know that!
Lets hook up on a "Work Weekend"................just better leave your gun home! Ha!--Got a Black Buck with your name on him!
Man those steaks are sweet!
