I want to pimp-up my SKS. I want to change the stock and add a scope to start. I can take it apart to clean it, but how the world to you take the stock off ? Are ther any special tools needed. The screw will not turn with a flat screw driver?
The hardest part is driving that pin out with a pin punch, it is shaped like a nail with a head on both ends, one head is bigger and as you drive the pin out with a hammer it is soft enough that the pin head will collapse.

The takedown "button" is a solid spring-loaded plunger pointed down and back from just behind the trigger on the outside of the trigger guard. It CAN be depressed with an unfired cartridge, but of course I'd never recommend that! The roll pin is not an issue with field stripping and removing the stock.
I would suggest that you buy one of the drill and tap receiver mount scope kits vs the cover mount. The receiver cover mount will never hold a zero and if it actually does you are very very lucky and should go buy some lotto tickets .
