My friends son shot a sow saturday, he said he didnt see the piglets, anyway he was able to catch this one and I brought i home because I doubt it would survive on its own.
you can get a bottle and formula from walmart for him. also DO NOT KEEP HIM INSIDE YOUR HOUSE. the dry air from your air conditioner/heater will kill him. he will develope Pneumonia and die. be sure he has Moisture in the area you keep him in.
Also at that age, he will have to be fed in the middle of the night until you can teach him to drink from a ball tube type bottle(like they use in rabbit or hamster cages) or he will look as if he's dying in the morning. once you get by all that, they are the coolest pets anyone could have and will definatley be the talk of the neighborhood.
ATC,
Many/most are striped like that when very young. The stripes will go away. I have many gamecam pics of lots of similarly striped piglets but never have seen a grown striped pig!
When in grade school (many many moons ago) I recall reading in science class that a hog was the smartest animal. I found that interesting since I had thought a dog would be smarter.
I know someone in North Texas that has a few of those that size, plus a 200 lb. one that he raised. Like what was mentioned above, bottle feeding, keeping it outside, moisture are good suggestions. One thing thats fun my friend told me is when they want to play, it's fun but you gotta be careful because they do get pretty rough about it. and don't try to hand feed 'em.. they'll still have their sharp teeth.
I know it sounds harsh, but does anyone kill sows with piglets on purpose to cut their numbers down. At about what size do they not need momma anymore to survive?

Interesting cause my son just shot a sow, and I thought the same thing but with the damage they cause in the crops around us,Which our landowner owns and farms, I care less and just assume they be gone. I'll take em' on the pit anytime; but if I were too catch one that small I suppose I might try to make it a pet. It would give my lab something to play with and be a diff. animal to see for our block parties
They do make good pets and are surprisingly smart, BUT they will always be a wild animal and not to be trusted, it don't matter how long you have had it for a pet...WW
If you shoot a sow just wait a while and the piglets will come back to her one by one and you get the whole bunch. They aren't so cute if you have been humping feed out to feeders for the past 30+ years. lol
Girls are cute, pigs are not! Piglets are just not that ugly and are harmless and defensiveless looking that you want to shoot the tiny critters. I'm with Boom, but have only been filling feeders and buying feed for 13+- years! It's also a pain to repair or replace feeders (even with pinned legs) that the big boars take down! I guess some people would consider a water moccasin cute!!!

I hang my feeders so they don't tear them up, I just hate the feed going to them instead of my deer. When I see a 300# plus boar, I have to think that he got that way on my protien. lol
