La Cajun Hunter (as known on TBH) and myself were driving around the ranch looking for a big 8 to kill. It was around 10:30 and at some point we starting singing a song about being stuck in Mexico and no deer in sight....trust me it would not have been a hit song
About that time I looked up a small hill and noticed a doe standing in the open. I looked behind her and there he stood in front of some brush, starring right at us
At first Big Earl said it was a huge 8 point. So we took some time looking at this "big 8" and then I thought to myself this was not a time to look in the binos. I reached for my TC Pro Hunter .300 and stuck it out the window, about the same time Big Earl said something like, "jeff shoot that buck it's a monster." Based on the angle of the buck and the brush, the only shot I had was a neck shot. I let the .300 bark and the buck dropped in it's tracks. We had no idea what I just shot other than in was big. As we approached the deer it kept growing and growing..WOW! I was at a loss for words! This is by far the best deer I have ever taken.
Angadi scored the deer 177 4/8 typical
Los Cazadores scored the deer 179 7/8 non-typical
Some of the measurements:
Main Beams: 25 7/8
G2: L 13 6/8 R 12
G3: L 10 2/8 R 10 6/8
Mass: 38
Inside spread: 18
I will have an official score and solve the typical or non-typical debate after the drying period.
